I probably would change my rating if I visited again, but this visit literally made me cry. I was so disappointed. We got to Bass Pro later than we intended because it was a 10-hour travel day and traffic messed us up, but we still got there an hour before close. We booked it to the elevator and got in line at like 8:10. We waited and waited and waited, and then the worker at the front of the line started counting. She turned us away with just three people in line ahead of us. When we passed through memphis at the beginning of our trip, I said we should stop here on our way back through; I really wish I hadn't. I was so excited and my hopes were up, and it was just so disappointing to be turned away like that. We spent all that time in line, so we didn't even get to look around. I wish they would have turned us away sooner if that was going to be the case. I wanted to get a shirt and see the fish. It was completely a waste. Then, I figured I could at least go to the bathroom before we got back on the road. (We're from MO, I normally love a bass pro and their bathrooms.) But this one was TERRIBLE. I went to the family restroom because that was the first one I found; there was TP all over the floor and none in the holder. I had to use a freaking paper towel, and that dispenser is broken; I had to press the button 10 times to get 3 inches of paper towel. And the sink spewed water all over my shirt. Worst Bass Pro experience of my life.

Easy to get to and plenty of open parking. A couple of different things about this Bass Pro Shop is that they have a hotel located inside, and they have a lookout towards the top of the pyramid that anyone can go up to and overlook the Mississippi River and Memphis. The overlook is accessed by an elevator located in the middle of the store. This store has anything you could possibly want for your outdoors and water adventures. Fun for kids as well. There are some large aquariums and ponds with fish in them. A great place to stop for travels passing through Memphis.

I've been a frequent visitor of the Pyramid since the Tomb of Doom days. I wish I could rate the Bass Pro at the Pyramid higher-- there are aspects of the place that are five stars, and then there are other parts that are one star. The interior design is top notch, and when we have out of town visitors, I always try to show them around. The floor representatives/different departments are usually very helpful, and I try to swing in for fishing stuff from time to time when I'm heading across the river (though the Sycamore View location is still my go-to store). I'd rate the observation deck as one star. When I bring friends and family, we usually get in line right before they open at 11 am. This is always a chaotic experience (not much direction over which way the line goes, usually the associate who opens the desk is late, etc.). This morning, I brought my three young kids, and we were about third or fourth in line at 10:45 am (there's a separate line for hotel guests). While we waited, several workers walked by on their way to the elevator (a couple almost giving the now forming line a second hand cannabis high). About 15 people formed in line behind us. Then about 10 other people started forming on the other side (it sort of makes a T in the middle). When the person finally rolled in to open up the desk (5 minutes late and surly), our entire side of the line (which had been waiting longer) was told we were going to have to get behind the newly formed line. I ended up leaving with my kids (we had already sank enough time into waiting). Each time we go to the observation deck at opening, there is some sort of cluster (confusion about lines, employees showing up late, etc.). They should have an associate helping to organize things at 10:45 or so. As a Memphian, I also hate that a few questionable employees become representative of the store and the experience (a few out of towners I talked to while in line remarked on the workers' surliness and smell of cannabis).

The Bass Pro Pyramid in Memphis is America in its purest form a literal Egyptian pyramid on the Mississippi River turned into the greatest sporting goods store to ever exist. Bald eagles would weep with pride. Multiple restaurants inside so you never have to leave, a full hotel if you want to sleep where you shop, and an elevator ride straight to the top of the pyramid for a view that’ll make you want to sing the national anthem right there. Boats, guns, fishing gear, taxidermy the size of a barn, and enough American flags to outfit a Fourth of July parade all under one glass pyramid roof. Absolute must see if you’re anywhere near Memphis. 10/10, freedom rating.

I want to share my experience because I am a huge Bass Pro Shops fan. I have visited almost every Bass Pro Shops location in the United States, so I was incredibly excited to finally visit the largest store in Tennessee. When I first walked in, my initial reaction was, “Wow! What an amazing place!” The building is absolutely beautiful, and I couldn’t wait to start shopping. Unfortunately, that excitement didn’t last long. As I walked through the store, I was surprised by how many clothing sections had empty shelves or very limited inventory. I was also looking for souvenirs and apparel to take home as gifts, but I could hardly find anything. I asked an employee if they had another size of a T-shirt I liked, and to my surprise, she didn’t even acknowledge or respond to me. Customer service like that is very disappointing, especially at what is supposed to be the flagship Bass Pro Shops store. Another disappointment was having to pay $8 just to access the observation deck. On top of that, I used one of the restrooms, and the cleanliness was below average. There weren’t even paper towels available to dry my hands. Later, my wife and I ate at the burger restaurant inside the store. I ordered the chicken wings, and my wife ordered a hamburger. The wings were very poor quality and clearly tasted like they had been reheated. My wife’s hamburger wasn’t any better. The food was a huge disappointment. For a store that is promoted as the largest Bass Pro Shops, I expected a much better experience: fully stocked shelves, exclusive merchandise, clean facilities, well-organized displays, and friendly, well-trained staff. Unfortunately, I found the exact opposite. It genuinely saddens me to write this review because I truly admire the Bass Pro Shops brand and have always enjoyed visiting its stores. That’s exactly why I expected so much more from this flagship location. Would I visit this store again? Absolutely not.
