I want to share my experience from yesterday and then move on from it.
I was shopping in the store with my child, and unfortunately, I was disappointed with how my visit was handled. I started in the plus-size section and selected several items I wanted to try on—approximately 15 to 20 pieces. As someone who typically has to try on multiple items before finding something that works, I wanted to avoid making repeated trips between the sales floor and the fitting room. I placed everything in a shopping cart and then went to the children’s section so my child could pick out a few things as well. Altogether, we probably had 30 to 40 items in the cart.
When we went to the fitting room, there was no posted policy limiting the number of items allowed, nor was there an associate present to provide guidance. I am always respectful of store policies, and if someone had simply asked me to reduce the number of items, I would have done so without issue.
As I was looking for a clean fitting room—since two of them were piled high with clothing—an asset protection employee entered the women’s fitting room area and told me to bring the items back out when I was finished. At first, I did not respond because he had not identified himself. He repeated himself in a harsh tone, and I said okay. As he was leaving, I commented that it was surprising to see a man in the women’s fitting room area. He responded by referencing his job, and I continued with trying on my clothes.
Once I was finished, I carefully rehung everything because I believe in being courteous and cleaning up after myself. I then went to the children’s section to return the items we had decided not to purchase. To my surprise, the same asset protection employee was in that area as well. I noticed him greeting other shoppers, which stood out to me given our earlier interaction.
At that point, I politely asked if I could speak with him. I asked whether he was following me because I found it concerning that he had been in the fitting room area and was now in the same section where I was shopping. He immediately became defensive and said it was his job to walk the floor. While I understand that asset protection staff have responsibilities, having a full cart does not automatically mean someone is stealing, and I did not appreciate feeling singled out or treated with suspicion.
As the conversation ended, I took a photo of the employee involved because I felt uncomfortable with how the situation was handled. Another employee, who was standing nearby, also became involved, even though my intention was only to document the person I had interacted with directly.
I am leaving this review because no customer should feel watched or judged while shopping—especially when they are simply trying to make purchases. I have spent significant money at this store over the years, and this experience was upsetting.
I am not interested in escalating this to corporate, but I do believe this location could benefit from improving its customer service approach. What the store chooses to do with this feedback is up to them.
