  I came in to do a simple exchange for an online order on some jeans that were one size too big. Already a bit nervous about the process due to some social anxiety I decided to reach out to support to make sure I had what was needed for an in store exchange. Support assured me exchanges were very straightforward, not even requiring a receipt for a simple size swap. Okay, great to know. Despite that I still made sure to have my receipt ready as well. Once inside the store I made sure to grab my new items for the exchange, the exact same pants one size down (38x30 instead of 40x30)and got in line. As soon as I made it to a cashier he began shuffling the pants I’d brought in around and started to accuse me of trying to pull some kind of scam. He repeatedly asked if what I was exchanging was pre worn or washed or even the same item. I began explaining my situation; I’d ordered them online, they came in, I’d tried them on, and they were too big. Surely this wasn’t a unique experience? I mentioned speaking to support who informed me to bring them in and do the exchange. He then proceeds to very dramatically smell every. single. inch. of the jeans I’d brought in. He asked me again if I was certain they weren’t washed or pre-worn. At this point I was so caught off guard and uncomfortable I didn’t know how to react. I mean, what the actual heck? It felt like I was in some weird public humiliation ritual. I’ve worked in retail for years and the main thing you’re taught is to always assume positive intent, and not berate or assume the worst of people who are doing a return or exchange. I was mortified by the experience, and embarrassed beyond belief as other customers watched from the line as he continued to smell the pants over and over again. The cashier eventually processed the exchange but not without repeating himself to me that I was lucky HE was handling this and not some other worker since according to him “exchanges are at the discretion of the employee, not policy” so in the future I probably wouldn’t be so lucky. How many pants does he think I’m gonna be exchanging? This isn’t some kind of sport or hobby for me, I just need one size down, and had ordered online and wasn’t familiar with American Eagles sizing/fit. Anyway, if you enjoy being embarrassed in public I guess you’d be happy to experience that here and give 5 stars. As for me I think I’ll stick to online shopping and never leave my house again. Really sucks cause I came in feeling very prepared for the interaction I’d expected to have and excited about getting the right pants just to be left feeling like a scolded child. Be kind people, it’s not that hard.

  The people working here seem to be miserable. Especially on the aerie side. I typically shop online and bring my returns here but i’m going to start going to the bridgeport location because the energy is just so bad here. everyone looks at you with RBF (no smiles) and seems annoyed when you ask them questions.

  Paige was the gal attending the fitting rooms and she was absolutely amazing! She took the time to get me a size up in a shirt and short for me to compare. The gal behind the register with the "Harry Potter" style glasses, who checked me out, helped get me signed up for their credit card. The entire shopping experience was fun from walking in to checking out!

  Every time i step in this place somebody always welcomes me in, and everyone is always so kind and the store is always kept clean. Super great customer service!!

  Great customer service here everytime I have visited. All of their clothes are comfortable & not super expensive. My favorite clothing store.
