My husband surprised me with $600 in Alo merchandise including a $200 pair of Alo tennis shoes. We went in today to exchange a few items, including the shoes, because they were very large on me.
A dark-haired employee, who I assume may have been a team lead possibly, refused to accept the shoes because she said they had been worn. I had tried them on once for less than 30 seconds on a brand-new rug in my office, so there was no earthly way the marks she was referencing came from me.
She then said she was not saying the wear came from me, which obviously creates a bigger issue. If it did not come from me, then we were sold a $200 pair of shoes that already showed signs of wear. They sold us $200 USED SHOES?
A manager came over, looked at the shoes, and was much more reasonable. She was able to wipe the marks off and said they were likely from customers trying the shoes on in the store.
The dark-haired employee then came back and told us they were “making an exception,” but that in the future we should check the condition of merchandise before leaving the store. That was the part that really bothered me.
It is not the customer’s responsibility to inspect brand-new $200 shoes to make sure Alo is not selling merchandise with marks from previous try-ons. That responsibility belongs to the store.
Her attitude was smug, dismissive, and unnecessarily rude. We still spent around $600 in the store today, but had I dealt with her at the beginning of our visit, I would have walked out without purchasing anything.
Had she spent 10 seconds to find resolution for THEIR issue, this would have been entirely avoided.
I do want to mention that the employee who checked us out was extremely kind and helpful. I felt bad that she was stuck in the middle of what should have been a very simple customer service situation.
Alo is a premium brand with premium pricing. The customer service and quality control should reflect that. They should strongly consider additional training for this employee.

Worst quality and customer experience I’ve ever had.
We were unable to return a damaged skirt because it was missing a tag that the skirt never came with in the first place. For a brand that charges premium prices, it’s unacceptable to deliver clothing in damaged condition and then refuse a return over a missing tag that was never provided.
Noel, the assistant manager, was one of the least empathetic and least reasonable customer service representatives I’ve ever dealt with.
Shame on Alo.

1st time going to the Alo store I was amazed how the staff was not welcoming of guests. The staff was to busy talking to one another. The clothes are cute, way to expensive for sweats in my opinion. Please have the staff be better at greeting and helping people find sizes and what they need.
