LANE BRYANT BANKRUPTCY; NOT REFUNDING RETURNS
Recently purchased 12 items from Lane Bryant online and had to return all of them. (The sizing chart was not quite correct so they didn’t fit.) They were all returned unworn, in original packaging, with tags, in perfect condition.
At the time, i did not know that LB and it's parent company--Ascena Retail Group--had already filed bankruptcy. This includes Catherines, Justice, Ann Taylor, and other stores. Buyer beware.
LB failed to refund the full amount to my cc (even accounting for S/H deductions).
Tried to contact LB, but they do not post their phone number on their website. Found one via Google AI, and the cc fraud dept gave me another one to try, but LB doesn’t answer either. Tried to reach LB on their website, but their pop-up gatekeeper isn’t functioning correctly (have to hold a key down on the keyboard to prove you’re not a bot). CC company did tell me that LB claimed I had not returned all 12 items. But that is a lie. CC fraud dept also told me that they would not review the case because the amount in question was too small (under $100).
LB—and a growing number of corporations like them—have discovered a new way to steal from consumers with online purchases and returns: just say that not all items were returned. How can the customer prove otherwise? Corporations know all the limits set by cc companies. LB knows that if they just say it isn’t so, the cc company will not look into it. Obviously customers are not at the warehouse when their package arrives to document their return with photos and video. If we take photos before shipping, company can just say that doesn’t prove anything.
I keep detailed records—including screenshots—of everything, but in this bold new paperless world, in the end, it’s my word against theirs. And corporations never side with consumers.
Badly done, LB. VERY badly done. If you had snatched my purse, I would have filed a police report for theft. As it is, I have to pursue much more time-consuming online methods to try to recover what you stole. And corporations like LB know that most of us cannot afford to put that much time and effort into pursuing relatively small sums of money. Not worth a legal hassle, so they can steal and never have to face any charges.
Used to shop at LB and Catherines, but these days, BEFORE you make ANY online purchase, better check to make sure that the parent company isn’t filing for bankruptcy. Would not have placed this order if I had known.
Posting here bec Google will not bring up the Cbus address for LB HQ.
