- RTRj TJul 2, 20251.0I came in to get my monthly Smart Start ignition interlock calibration. Business as usual . A few days later, I notice my bank account was lower than it should have been. So I pulled my bank statement. I was charged $283.45. I dropped by Stereo West and asked what my monthly calibration fee was. The guy behind the counter told me he didn't have access to that information , to call Smart Start. I asked why i was charged $283.45 , he told me to call Smart Start .I asked for a printout of my monthly visits, He told me to call Smart Start. I asked why I was never given receipts, he told me to call Smart Start. I replied "Stereo west does bare some responsibility here". You calibrate my car and i hand you my debit card."He replied " I'm trying to help you Ma'am, I dont have access to anything. Please call Smart Start." So I am dealing with Smart Start for now. One more thing, when I got my receipts from Smart Start , My phone number and email on file were from 2015. Should I decide to keep the Smart Start company , I googled Omaha NE Smart Start service. There is a list of companies that do monthly calibration.

- FFfangirlsruineverythingJun 2, 20211.0If you or someone you know has been fined and denied reimbursement for a violation due to smart starts faulty equipment please contact the Nebraska cyber crimes division. It’s your service centers job to insure your device is working properly so you can drive safely and to stay in compliance with the court. They are not going to reimburse you for “missed test” resulting in violation. These devices are meant to be calibrated after so long to make sure it is functioning properly. I’ve had 2 “missed tests” in the last 2 weeks. I have a $100 fine. I am going to get the violation reports at the request of my probation officer and record the device at start up. I can SEE the equipment malfunctioning despite being calibrated only a month ago. I’m done dealing with them, I am informing the BBB then contacting the authorities.

How does an Interlock Device work?
When you blow into your Ignition Interlock Device, you're providing a breath test sample in order to start the vehicle. The device then measures your Breath Alcohol Concentration (BrAC), and will either say that you passed, need to retest, or failed. You will be asked to take rolling retests throughout your drive.

Is an Ignition Interlock the same as a breathalyzer?
Ignition Interlock and handheld breathalyzers both test your Breath Alcohol Concentration (BrAC), but an Ignition Interlock Device is only installed in vehicles and prevents the car from starting if there is alcohol detected. A handheld breathalyzer only detects alcohol and may tell you the concentration.

Can someone else drive my car?
