  I will not be bringing clothes here again. I brought a basket of mostly brand new clothes some still with tags still attached, and they rejected all of them for being stained and worn. Most were brand new and had been in hanging in my closet never worn. In previous reply’s to customer complaints the owner suggested some items may not be accepted for being “an older style”, but I’m 23 and shop in the same places the owner listed in the post I am referencing. A few of the clothes on the top of my basket had been unfolded, but the rest were never unfolded and in the same order I had put them in the basket. Overall it was just a waste of time since they didn’t even look at a majority of the clothes I had brought in. UPDATE: The owner’s response states that odor is often the biggest reason for passing on items. I want to clarify that this publicly implies that the clothing I brought in had an odor, which is not true. The items that were not brand new had been freshly laundered before I brought them in, and we do not smoke. Several of the items still had their original tags attached. More importantly, the majority of the clothing was never unfolded or removed from the basket, so I don’t understand how odor could have been determined to be the reason for rejecting those items. If there was a specific issue with the condition or smell of the clothing, I would have expected that to be communicated to me when I was there rather than being implied publicly afterward. I completely understand that Plato’s Closet can choose what it does and does not purchase. What I don’t think is fair is having most of my items apparently not inspected and then having the public response suggest that odor was the reason they were rejected. I wanted to clarify that for anyone reading the owner’s response.

  I will never understand how this company continues to pay people the same prices they did 18 years ago. They want basically brand new items and will pay you $6 and some change for it then turn around and charge at least $20 for it. It’s a scam and they prey on young people who probably don’t understand how badly they are getting taken advantage of. Yet the racks are full of badly damaged Sherpa jackets, low name brands that I’ve never heard of and foul smelling tshirts… I do not understand. I took a pair of American Eagle jeans there a week after I bought them FROM PLATOS and they said they didn’t want them but I could bring them back and try again another time ?? I also have taken brand new shorts from the buckle there after I lost the receipt with the tag still on them.. $72 shorts and Platos offered $8. This place is wild.

  I took my 16 year old foster daughter to Plato’s closet and she really wanted to sell some of her clothes. When we came to collect our items we were told the no items were going to be collected because they weren’t clean. I was in shock. I promise I make sure the clothes are clean and yes we do have dogs but a lot of people have dogs. That’s besides the point though. It made me feel dirty and disrespected. She said if we clean them up we could bring them again. But didn’t give any details if there were any clothes they were interested in. I was so disappointed. What’s worse is I feel hurt for my daughter.
