  09/06/26 I went to Belk in High Point NC, to buy Skechers walking shoes for an upcoming trip and had the pleasant good fortune to have "Sadie" check me out. What a nice young woman representing Belk! Sadie has 110% excellent customer service skills; she was professional yet friendly, efficient, and attentive to the needs of this customer. (specifically, she saw right away that the two shoeboxes I had were oversized and went immediately to get larger shopping bags). As a Navy Veteran, I was impressed by her "attention to detail." Sadie is a rarity these days, when too many in the retail world make it obvious to the customer that they are unhappy in their jobs, which reflects badly on the company and results in fewer repeat visits from a consumer. I will be shopping at Belk more frequently in the future. Give Sadie an Atta-Girl!

  After leaving Dillard’s Clearance, a quick Google Maps search pointed us toward Belk. Eight minutes later, we walked through the doors and immediately discovered something wonderful: Their air conditioning worked. 😂 After our previous shopping adventure, that alone felt worthy of a star. I grabbed a push cart, half for potential loot and half because at a certain point in a shopping day, a buggy becomes less transportation and more mobility assistance. The store was clean, organized, and, praise be, the racks were spaced far enough apart that both me and my buggy could navigate without taking out a display. Ray was released into the men’s department and promptly ran wild. Meanwhile, I discovered what may be Belk’s greatest contribution to marital harmony: comfortable chairs outside the fitting rooms. Yes. Chairs. While husbands confront fluorescent lighting and the mysterious mathematics of pants sizes, wives can sit peacefully and reconsider the life choices that brought them there. This is civilization. After several contenders, only one pair survived the fitting room Olympics, but they were winners. White Perry Ellis linen pants, 50% off, plus another $10 coupon simply for handing over the same phone number that half the businesses in America, several telemarketers, and probably a few exes already have. Fair trade. The employees we encountered were pleasant, the store was comfortable, and the selection was good without feeling like we needed excavation equipment to shop it. And because saving money naturally makes you feel entitled to immediately spend some of it on calories, we walked across to Jersey Mike’s for our celebratory high calorie meal. You don't have to buy a buggy full to have a successful trip. Sometimes all you need is one good pair of pants, a coupon, functioning air conditioning, and somewhere to sit while your husband changes clothes. Belk understood the assignment. And the thermostat. 😂
