  This is a pretty typical Belk, with expensive luxury stuff on the top floor with women's fashions. Kind of insultingly, Plus and Petites are downstairs, so if you are fat or short, truck your butt down the escalator. Intimates, Kids, Mens, and other stuff is down there, too. It's hard to imagine that segregating some women by their body type was a better solution than just offering all sizes together, but certainly I'm not a retail expert. The usual Belk coupon nonsense was in full play: there was a 50% coupon online with a giant list of exclusions, making it unrealistic to actually use. Although there was a wide range of items for sale, customer service didn't seem to be prioritized. There were no price check kiosks available and signage/stickers were often inconsistent or unclear. For some reason, loud broadcasts announced each time a salesperson signed a customer up for a store credit card. Though there were multiple checkout stations on each floor, most were closed. I found one checkout with a single salesperson and became the third person in line. The salesperson was assisting two customers with signing up for a credit card, which is apparently a long process. Meanwhile, two other salespeople chatted casually nearby, then disappeared. The line grew to 4 people waiting as the lone salesperson suggested that we all walk over to the counter in dresses. The lady waiting in front of me commented that she had come from there and no one was at that register. After a few more minutes, the two talkative salespeople came back and one opened the second register (yes, there were two registers available at this counter!). The first salesperson was still talking through the credit card, so the lady in front of me was served by this second salesperson. This lady complained about the wait and the salesperson gave the most incredibly insincere apology I have ever heard from a person in retail. The salesperson then suggested that everyone else waiting could walk across the store to the makeup counter and we could check out there. Frankly, I didn't trust that recommendation, so I waited it out. The first salesperson was STILL doing the credit card transaction, which must have taken 10+ minutes in total. I checked out with the second salesperson and all was well. On my way out, I noted probably 5 salespeople at the makeup counter, so maybe I could have gotten service there after all. My takeaway is that Belk is a chain that does not prioritize the customer, preferring to make them wait or walk longer distances in favor of selling credit cards and arranging store displays. At least I got my Gloria Vanderbuilt capris for the low price of $23!
