  For the positive, customer service was friendly and helpful. The store seems well stocked but not in activewear. It was a small section with overpriced items for the quality. The DNKY shorts had huge warning on label not to get near fire. And instructions were lay flat to dry. Seriously on both issues??? A short sleeved tshirt & the shorts were about $50 each. Neither were a quality material blend. The total was $75 after coupon. Even $50 total would be a stretch. The dressing rooms looked like the floors hadn’t been mopped in a month. It’s no wonder why brick & mortar is disappearing.

  This store had a good selection of items. However, the men’s section was a disaster. Not enough employees apparently and the ones working that I saw didn’t seem to have a real sense of urgency to do much.

  For context: we came on the Saturday before Mother’s Day. We must have walked to 3 different registers looking for an employee to check us out. We found two employees standing behind a register chit-chatting who told us their register was closed and directed us to the jewelry counter. We stood a while in the jewelry line only to realize the customer being helped was shopping for jewelry, not checking out. So we walked to women’s to stand in another line. That one didn’t move for at least 5 minutes. We were finally called to a cosmetics counter where we complained that there was a lack of efficient staffing (so many back of house workers obviously who WERE doing their jobs stocking, but even more workers who seemed to be standing around idly.) We spent longer trying to check out than actually shopping. Save your time and shop online or go to Kohl’s or Dillards across the street.

  UPDATE: After giving this situation a second try with a manager, my relationship with Belks will continue. The manager was willing to work with me on my exchange. My lesson is to always be mindful of getting my receipt in addition to an emailed receipt as a backup. Thank you ERIN for making this work. I really appreciate it. Keep your receipt IF you get one! I take complete ownership for not checking my bag to make sure the clerk placed it in my bag and not just the items. (it was a group of clerks laughing and having a good time and my clerk was involved in the conversation so guess that is why I didn't receive a receipt). Got home to find that I had purchased the wrong size in exact same item I had purchased previously. The sad part is-I used gift cards so there was no record or way to trace the transaction. Could not even exchange for exact item in my size. My option was to pay more money! Just be conscious to ensure you get your receipt because there are no exceptions. Due to this, I returned $125+ of other merch purchased the same day that I had receipts for and the CC paperwork too all was in my bag but the one receipt! I will also be canceling this new Belk CC they talked me into ASAP! I will be sharing my experience with all my salon clientele, family and friends.

  Normally I am very happy with the service at Belk but today was the worst experience. I could only find 2 cashiers and they were in the ladies' department. There was 1 line for the cashiers with customers going to the next available cashier. After spending at least 30 minutes in line I was next. However, one of the cashiers checked out someone who had not been in line and had just walked up the the cashier. Seeing this, another customer did the same thing when I said that I thought the line I was in was for both cashiers. The other cashier said that was correct. The customer who was cutting in line started to go to the end of the actual line but the cashier told her to stay and she went ahead and checked her out before anyone else in the line. Very poor customer service.
