Scheels has long been one of, if not my favorite store but I cannot and will not support a business that is utilizing Flock cameras. For those unaware, Flock cameras are AI-powered cameras that essentially stalk everyone they see by cataloging your whereabouts from one camera to the next into a database using not just facial recognition, but also logging info on your vehicle (license plate, dents/dings, stickers, roof racks, anything identifiable), electronics (anything that emits an RFID or Bluetooth signal, to my understanding), etc. These are a blatant attack on the privacy and personal liberty of all Americans and the fact that Scheels is utilizing them is disgusting.
One of the best stores in Montana
Scheels is one of those stores that makes me wish Bozeman had one. I actually drive from Bozeman to Billings specifically to shop at Scheels, and every time I make the trip I’m reminded why it’s worth it.
The selection is absolutely incredible. Whether you’re looking for outdoor gear, hunting and fishing equipment, athletic clothing, shoes, camping gear, or something for the kids, they seem to have just about everything. It’s the kind of store where you can easily spend a couple of hours walking around and still find something new.
The staff are another huge reason I keep coming back. They’re friendly, knowledgeable, and actually willing to take the time to help you find what you need. I’ve had great experiences getting recommendations and finding the right products rather than just being pointed toward an aisle.
And the store itself is just awesome. It’s huge, clean, well organized, and genuinely fun to walk through. The Ferris wheel and all of the different displays make it feel like more than just a sporting-goods store.
Honestly, my biggest complaint is that Bozeman doesn’t have one. With how much outdoor recreation there is in the Gallatin Valley, I think a Scheels would be incredibly popular.
Until that happens, I’ll keep making the drive to Billings. Five stars without hesitation — Scheels is worth the trip.

I'm a little disappointed with the gun counter and how they handled form 4 and other NFA paperwork. I would not suggest going to them for this at all, and for that matter guns as well. I am not sure if I just had an employee that was struggling that day or what, but I sort of felt as though I was being treated like a criminal because I wanted to buy an NFA item. After being clipped with me about the ATF laws and being wrong it rubbed me the wrong way. I just wish that the employee had handled the situation a little better and had been more accommodating instead of trying to make things not work out. In the end it all went through but I don't think I would ever buy another NFA item or firearm from them again. Sorry Scheels your great with everything else you sell until it comes to anything firearms. :(

Name one other business in Montana with a ferris wheel inside of it. Ill wait. Thats what I thought. Scheels is the best. I went to Bass Pro Shops down the street and it did not deliver like Scheels. Ill stand my ground for this opinion to anybody. Scheels is the GOAT. Thank you.

I hate to do this because I actually love the store, but the decision to install Flock AI cameras at all the front entrances is disgusting and anti american. Its a massive breach of privacy.
These "Automated License Plate Readers (ALPRs or LPRs)" are AI-powered cameras that capture and analyze images of all passing vehicles, storing details like your car's location, date, and time. They also capture your car's make, model, color, and identifying features such as dents, roof racks, and bumper stickers, often turning these into searchable data points.
These cameras collect data on millions of vehicles regardless of whether the driver is suspected of a crime. These systems are marketed as indispensable tools to fight crime, but they ignore the powerful tools police already have to track criminals, such as cell phone location data, creating a loophole that doesn't require a warrant.
Theyve already been misused to stalk and harrass people, and even falsely arrest people who have commited no crimes.
