  I regularly sell books at Half Price in Highland Park. I usually sell around 10 books at a time and usually get $5.00 or more. It's not much but it helps to clear out some space in my apartment and is an acceptable amount for a small quantity of books. Today a friend of mine brought a cloth grocery bag with over 10 of my books in to sell as I am laid up with a bad knee. These were books in good condition and included books by authors I have sold in the past when I would get my usual $5.00. Also included was recent a prize winning book which is not of the type of books found on display at Target. I thought that book might bring a little more. The buyer at Highland Park's Half Price book offered $1.00 for the bag. My friend who brought the books in, after discussing the situation with the buyer, accepted the offer as I had instructed him to accept any offer. But when my friend dropped off the $1.00 for me, I was frankly shocked to receive so little for good quality books, some by authors I have sold before and have received $5.00 or more for. This is the last time I sell at Half Price. If all I will receive for over w0 quality books is $1.00, I would rather put my books that I am not going to keep in neighborhood Little Libraries. There are two Little Libraries close so me, and it would be more satisfying to know that I'm providing free good books for my neighbors to enjoy than it would be to sell those same books for less than 10 cents apiece. I am so disgusted by this ecperience, that I will no longer purchase books at Half Price either. I can find the same books on eBay of other sites, often for less than I would have to pay at Half Price. I have no problem with Half Price making a good profit, but I do have a problem with getting ripped off.

  I almost feel bad leaving a lower review because the staff was very kind and helpful. My only gripe is that I brought in sealed hard cover volume books that retail almost 70 dollars a piece and I was offered a ’measly 5 dollars for EVERYTHING. I don’t know if the employee just didn’t care for the actual value or if the company incentivizes them to lowball, but it was kind of ridiculous. Otherwise? Great selection, nice staff.
