I genuinely cannot say enough good things about Cloud Cannabis Downtown Grand Rapids, and at this point I feel like I should probably be paying rent because I have been coming here for so long.
After my first visit a few years ago, I haven't stopped coming back. In fact, Cloud has become the ONLY place I purchase from. And a huge reason for that is the staff, especially Tony and Charlie.
Every budtender I have interacted with has been incredibly knowledgeable, friendly, patient, and willing to actually take the time to explain things. I never feel like I'm being rushed through a transaction. If I have a question, they answer it. If I don't understand something, they explain it. If I'm looking for something specific, they actually listen to what I'm saying instead of just pointing me toward whatever happens to be popular that day.
Tony and Charlie in particular have given me some absolutely fantastic recommendations. They somehow manage to remember my preferences, understand what I'm looking for, and make suggestions that are actually tailored to me. And honestly, I appreciate that they are willing to tell me when they DON'T think I'll like something.
In fact, I was once specifically advised NOT to try the cold brew spiked/edible drink because, based on my preferences, they didn't think it was going to be my thing.
Naturally, I decided that I knew better.
I bought it anyway.
They were right.
I hated every single second of that drink.
So congratulations, Tony and Charlie: you have officially earned my undying trust because I will never again question a recommendation based on my preferences. If you tell me something isn't for me, I am going to believe you. I have learned my lesson. The cold brew has humbled me.
What I appreciate most is that the team clearly cares about making sure customers have a good experience, rather than simply making a sale. That kind of service is becoming increasingly rare, and I think it deserves to be recognized.
Which brings me to my one tiny request/suggestion for Cloud: I really hope there is some sort of referral or "name drop" program for the budtenders. If there isn't one, there absolutely should be!
I spent years working in the hotel industry, and one of the nicest ways to recognize employees was when a guest specifically mentioned them by name for providing exceptional service. At one hotel, a name drop could even mean an extra $5 on the employee's paycheck. I would LOVE to see something similar here. If a customer takes the time to specifically say, "Tony was amazing," or "Charlie helped me find exactly what I needed," those employees should get something extra for that.
Because let's be honest: if I were running a bonus program based on how many times I have enthusiastically recommended Tony and Charlie to other people, they would probably be able to retire by now.
Anyway, I absolutely love everyone at this location. Every visit has been a great experience, and I genuinely appreciate the knowledge, kindness, humor, and effort the entire team brings to the job.
Tony, Charlie, and everyone else at Cloud Downtown Grand Rapids: thank you for being wonderful humans, excellent budtenders, and apparently much better judges of my taste than I am.
I hope every single one of you gets all the good things in life: raises, bonuses, great snacks, excellent days off, and absolutely NO customers coming in five minutes before closing asking 47 questions.
You all deserve it.
I'll see you next time. Probably asking for a recommendation.
And this time, I promise I will listen.
