Calibration

Ignition interlock devices require regular calibrations that will vary depending on your state's regulations. State regulations require your device to be calibrated anywhere from every 30 to every 180 days. Ignition interlock device calibration ensures that your car breathalyzer accurately reads and records your BAC every time it is used.

Installation

Ignition interlock device installation typically takes around 1-2 hours depending on the make and model of your vehicle. You have the option to drop off your vehicle and pick up at a later time or wait in the provider waiting area while your car breathalyzer is installed.

Removal

Removal of your ignition interlock device is a quick and simple process. Your service provider will remove your car breathalyzer from your vehicle and return it to LifeSafer for you. Be sure to only have your ignition interlock device removed by a certified LifeSafer installer/provider.

BEWARE OF LIFESAFER. Seriously. If you are considering LifeSafer for an interlock device, RUN. I ignored my gut after reading the horrible reviews about this company, and I deeply regret it. Every complaint I read before choosing them turned out to be something I personally experienced. My interlock requirement was supposed to be 18 months. Instead, I was forced to keep this device for FOUR additional months because of problems involving LifeSafer's equipment and service. And let me be very clear: I did everything I was supposed to do. I went in every month to have the device calibrated and TWICE the technician could not properly reconnect the device after performing the service. They eventually had to send someone to my home to reinstall it. Then Motor Vehicle sent me a notice claiming I was non-compliant, and my required interlock period was extended. Think about that. Their technician couldn't properly reinstall their own equipment, and I was the one who paid the price. Then it got even worse. While working in Pennsylvania, I came out to my car and found the device beeping continuously and refusing to stop. I couldn't use my vehicle normally, so I had it towed from Pennsylvania to Maryland to have the problem addressed. I was then told the device was faulty. Another violation. Another problem. Another headache. And, ultimately, more time added to my interlock requirement. Then LifeSafer told me my battery was low and needed to be replaced. The cost? $360. My Honda was less than a year old. I declined the replacement and told them I would take it to Honda myself. Three days later, Honda inspected the vehicle. They found nothing wrong with the battery. At that point, I had absolutely had enough. When my device was FINALLY removed, I asked LifeSafer to reimburse me for the FOUR EXTRA MONTHS I was forced to pay for because of the problems I experienced with their equipment and service. Their response? NO REFUND. So let's do the math: approximately $110 a month for four additional months = $440 that I believe I should never have had to pay, not counting the $310 tow bill from PA to MD. And this is where I have a very hard time believing there isn't a serious problem with the way this company operates. LifeSafer gets paid every month that the device remains in your vehicle. When their equipment malfunctions or their service creates compliance problems, the customer is the one who suffers—and the customer keeps paying. I cannot say what their intentions were, but after everything I experienced, I was absolutely left with the impression that there was no urgency whatsoever to correct problems that resulted in me remaining a paying customer longer. And customer service? HORRENDOUS. Trying to get someone on the phone could mean sitting on hold for ONE HOUR AND 40 MINUTES. When you are dealing with a government-required device and compliance deadlines, that is beyond unacceptable. They know exactly what position their customers are in. You need the device. They know you need the device. And they have you. That is what makes this experience so infuriating. This wasn't a minor inconvenience. It affected my ability to use my vehicle, resulted in towing expenses, created compliance issues, extended the amount of time I was required to have the device, and cost me hundreds of dollars in additional fees. I would NEVER recommend LifeSafer to anyone. In fact, if you're reading this because you're trying to decide which interlock company to use, please take the negative reviews seriously. I didn't—and I paid the price. Faulty equipment. Failed installations. Compliance problems. Questionable charges. Terrible customer service. Hours spent trying to get someone on the phone. And absolutely no willingness to take responsibility when their problems cost me additional time and money. LifeSafer wasn't just frustrating. It was an absolute nightmare. DO YOUR RESEARCH. READ THE REVIEWS. AND BE VERY CAREFUL BEFORE YOU SIGN UP WITH THIS COMPANY. LifeSafer will be hearing from the Better Business Bureau very soon!
