I asked an associate was I doing something wrong? she immediately responded " you bothering me." Many other associates would strategically but definitely noticeably pick up random items next to me and act as if they were doing a merchandise search. They are very poor at their jobs. Before I became a social justice advocate and lawyer, I managed a retail store for a couple of years. In order to curtail theft, associates are supposed to provide outstanding customer service and pay attention to the customer., but they should not use their headsets (which was done here) to profile anyone without substantial reason to. I ask the manager Ana what I had done and she acted as if she was shocked but ( poor acting skills) I am writing this for other people who may have felt this presence in this store so you will know that you are NOT CRAZY. I will be reaching out to their corporate offices with my experience and my concerns. It is not okay for anyone to be racially profiled in this day and age. Express has to do better. .
