  I tried to make a return one day after an initial purchase and was told that because I didn’t have a receipt and there wasn’t a phone number on file for me I couldn’t even be issued a store credit. Highway robbery. I’ll never shop here again.

  One of the most frustrating customer service experiences I’ve had. I attempted to return several items and was told they were final sale and could not be returned. The problem is that nowhere on the receipt does it say “final sale,” and nowhere on the tags does it say “final sale.” If an item is truly final sale, that information should be clearly disclosed to the customer. I’m not a mind reader, and customers should not be expected to guess store policies that are not disclosed on the receipt or merchandise. What made the situation worse was the attitude of the employee ( black male ) handling the return. Instead of listening to a reasonable concern, he repeatedly insisted that the items were final sale while completely ignoring the fact that neither the receipt nor the tags reflected that. Rather than acknowledging the store’s failure to properly communicate this information, he acted as if the problem was somehow mine. The combination of ignorant and arrogance, poor communication, and unwillingness to listen was extremely frustrating. When a customer points out that the receipt and tags do not contain the information being cited, the appropriate response is to investigate and help, not dismiss the customer and argue. It takes talent to turn a simple return transaction into a disrespectful experience Fortunately, another employee stepped in and handled the situation professionally. She immediately understood the issue and recognized that if the store failed to clearly identify the merchandise as final sale, that was a store responsibility, not a customer mistake. She listened, used common sense, and treated me with respect. The second employee saved the experience. Unfortunately, the first employee’s attitude, lack of professionalism, and refusal to acknowledge a very obvious issue left a lasting negative impression Nordstrom should do a better job training employees to listen to customers and take responsibility when the store fails to clearly communicate important information.
