ZERO STARS! Extremely disappointing experience at Plato’s Closet in Schaumburg. I dropped off a bag of clothing on a Saturday morning and waited more than FOUR hours to have my items reviewed. I ended up having to come back at night due to my schedule. I brought approximately $350 worth of clothing, including brand-new Jordan high-tops with the original box, brand-new Akira clothing with tags still attached, and other recently purchased, fresh clothing. After waiting over four hours, I was offered only $20 for the entire bag. To put that into perspective, the brand-new Jordan high-tops originally cost $120, were in a women's size 7 (a very common size), and still had the original box. I was offered $10 for them. I also had a brand-new item with a $50 retail tag still attached, and they offered me $5 for it. I completely understand that Plato’s Closet is a resale business and that they aren't going to pay retail value. However, these offers were so low that they felt insulting and completely unreasonable given the condition of the items. What made the experience even worse was the lack of transparency. I asked why brand-new, recently purchased items were being valued so low, and no one could give me a clear explanation. After spending more than four hours waiting, I expected at least some basic explanation of how these offers were determined. Honestly, I would strongly recommend that people DO NOT bring their clothing or shoes here expecting a fair return. If you have brand-name, brand-new, or like-new items, you would likely be much better off selling them yourself through a resale platform or privately. Which I will be doing! Yes, it may take more time, but you have the opportunity to receive a fraction of the actual value rather than accepting an extremely low offer. I left feeling that neither my time nor the value of my items was respected. I will not be returning to this location, and I would encourage others to think twice before selling their clothes here. PLEASE STOP BEFORE WASTING YOUR TIME!

Staff was nice. Great selections! Definitely try stuff on, even if it's marked as Large, Obvi every brand fits different. I agree that the line waits can be improved, only one register open with 3 people behind me and one person being helped.

Horrendous scam- THEY WILL WASTE YOUR TIME! They cut up and toss perfectly good items INSTEAD of giving to charity. Sell polyester but will turn down high value designer goods. Probably why they are going out of business.

This was my first visit to this location, and unfortunately, it wasn’t a positive experience. I had only one item to purchase, and there were two customers ahead of me with full baskets. I noticed there were five employees working, but only one cashier assisting customers. I politely asked an employee if another register could be opened. Instead of offering assistance, she responded rudely that I would “just have to wait” and walked away. After waiting several more minutes, a manager finally called for backup. Ironically, the same employee came to the front but spent time talking with the manager instead of helping at the register. The interaction made me feel unwelcome, and I left disappointed by both the customer service and the lack of urgency to assist waiting customers.
