  I had an extremely upsetting experience at the JCPenney in Orland Park, IL on August 20, 2026. My children and I went into the store to shop, and I believe we were racially profiled. A male employee carrying a walkie-talkie repeatedly appeared in every section of the store where my family and I were shopping. After noticing the pattern, I confronted him and asked if he was following us. He denied it and said he didn't know what I was talking about. However, he continued to appear wherever we went, and the behavior was so obvious that my family and I felt like we were being monitored as potential shoplifters. The experience became even more uncomfortable at checkout. The cashier appeared reluctant to serve us and treated my son in a way that made it seem as though he was some kind of threat. We were simply customers shopping in JCPenney. We should not have been made to feel watched, suspicious, or unwelcome because of the color of our skin. What makes this especially disappointing is that this wasn't one isolated interaction. It was the combination of being repeatedly followed/monitored and then experiencing uncomfortable treatment at the register. My children and I left feeling humiliated and extremely uncomfortable. JCPenney needs to take complaints like this seriously. I hope the company reviews the surveillance footage from August 20, identifies the employees involved, and investigates whether we were treated differently because we are Black. I will not be returning to this location, and I strongly encourage JCPenney corporate to address what is happening at this store.

  I came in to buy some graduation shoes for my daughter’s preschool graduation and I found the cutest shoes online from JCPenney and it stated that it had one more left at Orland Park Mall, I could’ve got them shipped but I wanted to see them in person myself and they were just as cute, they look like the picture…. I gave the store a one star today August 3, 2026 because me and my mom and daughter were excited to get her shoes because it matched her dress perfectly but the craziest thing happened in the store today… It was this particular man every time I turned my corner because I also was looking for a hair bow that matched her dress and shoes, so when I got closer and closer to the middle of the store I noticed he had a walkie-talkie on his pants so I asked him did he work here and he said “it depends what are you looking for”, I asked him where were the hair bows and he said he didn’t have a clue but luckily they were only a few steps ahead and also the cash register was nearby, I didn’t like the hair bow so me and my mom and my daughter went straight to the cash register… My mom noticed the same strange man and seen him looking at us through the clothing rack, she got my attention and I also seen him and we locked eyes,… In that very moment me and my mother felt like we were being stalk for potentially shoplifting, it was other people in the line and he only looked at us as if we gave him a reason to stalk us down…. When we got finished paying for our shoes, we walk headed the opposite direction because we wanted to go into the mall, we seen him from a far because he was no longer in the same spot where he was stalking us… he was literally there to see if we was going to pay for the shoes…JCPenny this is not good Business, we literally was just about to leave because how weird he made us feel… he didn’t even try to be low-key with it, he wanted us to feel like hoodlums like we were scavengers in JCPenney looking to steal.. he better be glad I didn’t take a video of him and post his ignorant behind on Facebook… never in our life we felt so humiliated!

  UNBELIEVABLE. The manager Julie should NOT have been fired after working there for 28 years and being nothing but good. I am so disappointed and enraged and i will NOT be back.
