A few days ago, I placed an order to be delivered to my son while he was in the hospital after donating a kidney. Because I’m hundreds of miles away, I wanted to do something special to brighten his day and lift his spirits. I ordered 24 chocolate-dipped strawberries, a card, and a helium Mylar balloon, spending approximately $132. The strawberries and card were delivered, but the balloon I paid for was not. I understand that mistakes happen, and honestly, this review isn’t even about a $7 balloon. What bothered me far more was what happened afterward. I called the store, reached voicemail, and left a very polite and detailed message explaining that the balloon had not been delivered. I asked if someone could please return my call. No one ever did. That lack of response is what turned a small mistake into a very disappointing experience. This order meant something to me. My son had just undergone surgery to donate one of his kidneys, and being so far away, I was simply trying to send him something that might make him smile during his recovery. I wasn’t asking for anything unreasonable. I simply expected the items I paid for to be delivered, and when one wasn’t, I expected the basic courtesy of having my phone call returned. A missing $7 balloon could have been easily resolved with a quick phone call, an apology, or a refund. Instead, my message was completely ignored. For a company whose business revolves around sending gifts to people during meaningful moments in their lives, I expected much better customer service and consideration. Unfortunately, the lack of response left me feeling that once they had my money and the order was delivered, my concern simply didn’t matter. Very disappointing.
