I’m pretty picky, so I was just browsing and minding my business when a middle aged woman came up asking if I needed help, the normal sales stuff. Fine, right? Except she followed me around the store for the next 30 minutes. Every section I went to, she suddenly needed to be there too, going through clothes right beside me. It honestly felt like she assumed I was stealing, and I’m not sure why. I felt profiled and uncomfortable the entire time. My tipping point was when my teenage daughter came in and asked, “Why is this lady following you?” That’s when I realized I wasn’t imagining it. I ended up leaving, but before I did, I opened the bag I brought in and showed her I had stolen nothing and never would. Pretty sad experience overall. I can only imagine how often minorities deal with this kind of treatment here. I took my money to Kohl’s and the surrounding stores instead.
