Went to Portillos in Downers Grove in that shopping area. They told me they were open until midnight. I ordered through the drive-through and then went inside with my daughter. The cashier ran my card through 3 times before I got a receipt, despite the fact that each time the machine said it was approved. More importantly, Portillos has a policy that allows for free fries if you complete a survey and provide your name, email, phone number and very personal information. I completed this process, received my verification and asked the cashier for assistance. The manager, Rochelle, was happy to inform me that I must purchase or pay $5 in order to get (my approximately) $5 free fry. That isn't written on the survey form anywhere. Tell me why anyone would pay $5 for a free order of fries? Perhaps you must make a purchase...I was willing to do that; however, paying for free fries? Was I discriminated against as a senior or disabled person? She enjoyed this encounter. As diabetics with low blood sugar,I had already bought one order of fries and for the first time in several months, I thought it would be nice to get the fries, especially because my daughtter with T1D was facing a medical emergency. She/the manager, was rude and upon entering the building at approximately 10pm, the handicapped entry was closed, causing much difficulty for me. Boycott Portillos. When fries that are advertised as 'FREE' are $5 and no documentation exists to that effect, most call that 'fraud or deceptive advertisement'. Enjoy your $5 free fries and your non-compliant handicapped entry. We need competitors to this business. Good luck navigating the parking lot if you are handicapped. The slopes are so high that you may need to call an ambulance before you enter.
