  A coworker of mine came to work wearing the most beautiful pair of jeans and told me she had purchased them from Madewell. I'd never shopped there before, so I decided to stop in over the weekend. From the moment I walked in until the moment I left, it was a true five-star experience. As soon as I entered the store, Vanessa greeted me with the biggest, warmest smile. She asked how my day was going and if there was anything she could help me find. It immediately made me feel welcome. When I made my way over to the curvy jeans section, I started to panic a little because I wasn't sure anything would fit my body type. Another wonderful associate, Ama, came over and asked if I needed any help. I was feeling a bit insecure, so I said no, even though I really did need assistance. I think she sensed I was feeling overwhelmed because, instead of pressuring me, she gently suggested a few styles and then gave me space to browse on my own. I can't tell you how much I appreciated that. I felt comfortable, relaxed, and supported instead of feeling like I was being pushed into a sale. Then I met Ally in the fitting room. The first pair of jeans I tried on was definitely not the right fit, and I was just about ready to head home empty-handed when she smiled and said, "Wait! Let me grab something." I'll be honest, when I first saw the pair she brought me, I thought, "Oh no, these are not for me." But the moment I put them on, I couldn't stop smiling. They fit beautifully, flattered my shape perfectly, and I honestly felt so confident. I wore them to work, and everyone complimented them! This was, without question, one of the kindest, most supportive, and genuinely enjoyable shopping experiences I've ever had. I left not only with an amazing pair of jeans, but also feeling more confident and excited to come back and shop again. A huge thank you to Vanessa, Ama, and Ally for making someone who walked in feeling a little insecure leave feeling confident and happy. You are all incredible, and you truly made my day!

  I had a really disappointing experience at the Madewell in the West Loop. I initially spent about $1200 on some great items and was planning to return to buy more because I liked the selection. However, one of the items I purchased was the wrong size, and when I tried to return it, they refused to take it back because the tag was removed—even though the item was unworn and in perfect condition. The manager made a huge deal about the tag being off and wouldn’t accept the return, despite the amount I had just spent in the store. Just a warning—don’t expect to be able to return something here if the tag is removed, even if it’s brand new. I was planning to spend more money on new items, but after this experience, I’ll be taking my business elsewhere. Really disappointing.
