  I rarely leave negative reviews, but this experience was genuinely disappointing. I misread the return period for a shirt I’d purchased as a birthday gift and visited the store hoping the staff might be able to help or at least offer some guidance. I completely understand that return policies exist, and I wasn’t expecting them to ignore the rules. What I did expect was to be treated with a basic level of courtesy and respect. Instead, I was bluntly told the item was outside the return period, handed the customer service phone number, and told to leave the store. The interaction felt dismissive and unnecessarily rude from start to finish. When I asked for the employee’s name so I could provide feedback, they refused to provide it. Policies are one thing. How customers are treated is another. A little empathy and professionalism would have made all the difference. Instead, I left feeling embarrassed and unwelcome. Because of this experience, I won’t be shopping at Madewell again. There are plenty of retailers that value their customers and know how to handle these situations with respect. Unfortunately, Madewell has lost my business.

  Bad and rude customer service. Today, my friend and I stopped by the store and were casually browsing. My friend asked a female staff member (wearing a white T-shirt with a green cardigan) for help checking the size of a pair of pants, but she refused to assist and offered no help at all. My friend eventually had to find the size herself before deciding to try it on. At the same time, I was about to purchase a pair of baggy denim shorts, but then I noticed the same staff member making rude facial expressions and rolling her eyes behind my friend’s back. That immediately made me uncomfortable and changed my mind about buying anything from this store. The overall atmosphere felt awkward and unwelcoming, which was very disappointing because it was completely different from the customer service experience I’ve had at your downtown and West Loop locations. I hope this feedback helps improve the customer experience moving forward.

  I came in that, was greeted by Olivia. Who was already helping another guest, but still greeted warmly. After helping the previous person she grabbed the size I requested & then gave me a more accurate size. She nailed it! Perfect size, even showed me different rises, out of my normal comfort zone. She assured me she thought they’d work & be comfy for my body type. She had no lead me astray thus far, so I trusted her & ended up with my fave jeans in years. A pair of jeans I would never have picked up, if left to my own devices.

  It was fine, as far as Madewell shops go. The selection seemed to contain a lot of new arrivals, which is nice. But the staff were totally unwelcoming and blase. I wasn't greeted and when I bought something, I wasn't even thanked. The whole thing was very perfunctory. They were all just chatting amongst themselves and customers were a total afterthought. Not impressed. Rush St. And the one in Madison, WI are way better.
