Absolutely terrible experience at Plato’s Closet. The customer service was rude, dismissive, and made me feel like my time wasn’t worth anything. The whole experience was frustrating from start to finish. They act like they’re doing you a favor instead of actually trying to help customers.
I definitely wouldn’t recommend this place. There are plenty of other resale stores where you can get treated with basic respect. Save yourself the headache and go somewhere else.

I genuinely hope this location gets shut down. The owners have extremely condescending responses, take no accountability, and defend their own bad behavior. It seems these “new owners” have absolutely no idea of how to run a business. Some advice to you since you’re so quick to dish it out to others: try connecting with the community and offering to make the moment right, it could go a long way.

Sellers beware Plato’s closet Algonquin
I wanted to share my experience dropping clothes off at the Algonquin Plato’s closet. We dropped our clothes off on a Saturday afternoon, we were told they were extremely busy they’d be ready the next morning. We went to pick up our clothes, we were given a bag with our name on it but it wasn’t our bag. They searched through every bag and found ours. While going through that bag, while still in the store, we found clothes that were not ours. In addition to having someone else’s clothes, we were missing items.
A manager was contacted, and while I was in the store waiting, another customer came in to pick up her clothes. An entire bag that was not hers, was also added on to her clothes.
At this point I was told the owner would be contacting me to settle with the issues, in addition to payment on the clothes they said they were keeping {and did keep}. At this point I have not heard from the owner, and I attempted to contact him.
I wanted to warn others to keep a clear record of what you bring in if you decide to sell at Plato’s in Algonquin.

My Daughter sold an entire bag of Freshly Washed clothing at Bloomingdale/Carol Stream Location. She brought the leftovers to Algonquin.
The girls are all in Lululemon & off the shoukder sweatshirts pta mom outfits.not even stylish. Not fashionable.
The blonde haired girl complained that my daughters Tommy Girl, Calvin Kline, Tripp Inc & Hot Topic Pieces stunk. I told her funny. I just washed these clothes in tide gentle & free less than 12hrs ago. Maybe its you. You just don't want to do your job and go through bag. She stared at me. Said we only take Lululemon & aerie. I said ok. Btw, nobody in the hamptons, nyc or paris wears lululemon to a store. Its not fashionable. You should goto fashion school. Everyone is wearing calvin kline, imitation pucci or willow now. She scoffed.
The other mom in line said thats right. She looks like shes dressed for work at the Gym, so does everyone here. Its not that fashionable. They need a stylist, ettiquette on how to speak to customers w/eye contact. Dress for a job in fashion.
We took my daughters clothes to Schaumburg Platos Closet. Sold 2 bags there!
Ive seen the reviews. The owners comes on here.never apologizes. But says they have reviewed cameras. Not true. No accountability. Why is it only this platos closet is rude? Your upper blue collar in Algonquin. I can goto water tower drop my Amex card. Or Goodwill on Madison Ave and platos in Batavia. Still receive smiles, greetings,or let me get u a dressing room. Remember. You never know who is wearing blue jeans in your store. Every customer deserve respect.
Anyone reading this. If you adore platos closet like my Daughter. Skip this location. Schaumburg, Bloomingdale/Carol Stream, Naperville and Batavia have better employees? That know customers are valuable assets. They dress in fashion. Not like pta moms reenacting a scene from flashdance.
