I am writing to share a disappointing experience I had at the Maurices location at Boise Towne Square on August 16, 2026. I completely understand that Maurices associates are trained and expected to promote the Maurices Credit Card, explain its benefits, and ask customers if they would like to apply. My concern is not that I was offered the credit card. My concern is how aggressively and disrespectfully the store manager continued to pursue the subject after I had politely declined several times. When I first entered the store, the manager greeted me and asked if I needed assistance. I told her I was just looking around. She then stood staring at me silently for what felt like an unusually long and uncomfortable amount of time before walking away. I thought the interaction was strange, but continued shopping. Unfortunately, my experience became much more uncomfortable at checkout. The store was moderately busy, and the manager was ringing up my purchase while simultaneously helping train a newer associate at the register beside her. There were other customers waiting in line behind me. During my transaction, she asked if I had a Maurices Credit Card. I told her no and politely said, “No thank you.” Rather than accepting my answer, she asked why I wouldn't want to take advantage of the sales and offers associated with the card. I explained that I already had my own credit cards and again said no thank you. She continued, joking that I should get rid of one of my existing credit cards and replace it with a Maurices card so I could take advantage of their offers. At that point, I had declined multiple times. Her voice was loud enough that the customers around us could hear the conversation, which made the entire exchange increasingly uncomfortable and embarrassing. A customer's personal financial choices should not become a public discussion at the checkout counter simply because they decline a store credit card. What bothered me most was the apparent unwillingness to respect a polite “no.” There could be any number of reasons a customer does not want or cannot obtain another credit card, and they should not have to explain or defend that decision to complete a purchase. After completing my transaction, she mentioned the survey on my receipt and then gave me what I perceived as a glare followed by an insincere smile before immediately turning her attention back to the associate she was training. I left feeling that I had been treated rudely simply because I would not apply for a credit card. I was especially disappointed to later learn that the associate involved was the store manager. I would expect a manager not only to model excellent customer service, but also to demonstrate to a new employee how to recognize when a customer has politely declined an offer and when it is time to move on. For comparison, I recently visited the Maurices location on Eagle Road in Meridian and had a completely different experience. Lindy and Adriana were friendly, welcoming, and professional, and Adriana provided excellent service during checkout. That visit reminded me of the type of experience I expect when shopping at Maurices. I am sharing this because I believe there is an important distinction between appropriately promoting a Maurices Credit Card and making a customer feel pressured, embarrassed, or judged for declining one. Offering the card is understandable. Continuing to challenge a customer after several polite refusals is not. I hope Maurices will take this feedback seriously and provide appropriate coaching regarding respectful credit-card solicitation and customer interactions at the Boise Towne Square location. Unfortunately, based on this experience, I do not intend to return to that particular store.
