- JFJustin FontanSep 24, 20261.0Soldiers, especially NCOs: double-check your insignia if you use Commandos. I ordered two Large Regular OCP tops online. When I picked them up, I received a Large Long and a Large Short. To their credit, Commandos remade them at no charge. The bigger issue was the Mountaineering Badge (Ram’s Head) they provided and installed. Their badges measured approximately 1.25” x 1.25” instead of the authorized 1.5” x 1.5” size. I previously served in the 86th IBCT and already had a correctly sized badge on another uniform, so the difference was immediately noticeable. When I brought it up, their response was essentially that nobody else had complained about the size. That isn’t a standard. Soldiers trust a sew shop outside Fort Benning to provide the correct insignia. I ended up going to Ranger Joe’s and spending $10.99 each on two correctly sized badges to replace the ones Commandos installed. Commandos corrected the sewing, but never reimbursed me for the replacement badges, meaning I spent another ~$22 out of pocket just to get what should have been correct the first time. I also had newly earned Airborne wings added at the same time, and I had no issue paying for that—it was new work. My issue is that I should not have been out additional money correcting their original Mountaineering Badge installation. If you’re getting a Ram’s Head sewn on, verify the size before they install it. The smaller badge may block more neatly with Airborne/Air Assault wings, but that doesn’t make it the correct badge. Ranger Joe’s had the correctly sized Ram’s Head. Based on my experience, that’s where I’d go for this particular insignia.
