Really disappointing experience today at the Augusta Mall JCPenney. I will say the ladies at the jewelry counter were nice and tried to help but buyer beware, apparently the store jewelry counter has a different return policy than what is stated on the website and on your proof of purchase email when you pick up jewelry you ordered and paid for online. I picked up a pair of 2 carat total weight diamond earrings for Mother’s Day I was really excited about. I snipped the very small tags attached to the earrings to try them on, but they were too big and I felt uncomfortable in them. Because of the sale going on, I went back online to buy the next size down. When I went to pick up the second pair (also already paid for) I attempted to return the larger pair and was denied due to the fact I cut the tags. I was returning them to the store and the fine jewelry return policy on my order confirmation pickup email states: “Fine Jewelry:
All Fine Jewelry and Watches must be returned within 60 days of the purchase date with a sales receipt. Merchandise must be free of any signs of wear, including but not limited to, scratches, blemishes, scuffs, etc. All watches must be returned unworn, unaltered, and in the original condition with packaging and any accompanying accessories.”
I was told taking the tags off even though they were with the original packaging “altered” the earrings and made them non-returnable. I’d like to add this additional verbiage regarding tags on items to be returned (again this is directly from the email I received regarding my order confirmation and pickup): “Do original tags have to be in place when returning merchandise?
We do require that merchandise be returned with the original tags. Aside from Special Occasion Dresses and Men’s Tuxedos, the tags do not have to be in place on the merchandise.”
I did return the merchandise with the original tags and box etc and the earrings are unworn and in the exact same shape which I received them in. The JCPenney website, multiple emails, and TWO customer service representatives for JCPenney informed me I could return the earrings in store and I was denied by three associates in store for a return and refund. I explained my situation to customer service again, as I’ve now spent my afternoon wasting my time, and gas as it’s an hour round trip to the store and I’m in the hole for two pairs of expensive earrings, one of which I can’t return but the other smaller pair I can since those tags are still attached, as I was in store picking them up. My current option (and only) appears to be that I have to pay return shipping and send the earrings back to I don’t know where. The manager told me if the earrings get shipped back to her store she will deny the refund regardless of what customer service has told me/says. So what happens to my expensive earrings then? Will they get sent back to me? She could not and did not give me an answer. So my choices are keep expensive earrings I don’t feel comfortable wearing and return the pair I do love OR risk keeping both (even more expensive) and risk sending the original pair back (which I pay for and would likely have to get mail insurance on which I also can’t get back) and just see what happens? All of this has been a major headache, time consuming and honestly ruined what should have been a special and exciting Mother’s Day gift. They should have something in the email stating the store can make up their own return policy and just show you a laminated piece of paper to prove it regardless of company policy and there’s nothing you can do about it. I just want to return both pairs and be done with JCPenney now. They’ve lost a customer.

Horrible experience. I bought a 1x shirt that ended up being too small and wanted to exchange it for a 2x. They didnt have the 2x in store and when I asked if it could be ordered I was told by 2 different employees that brand didn't come in 2x. This was without the employees even looking in the system to check. I found out myself that the brand did indeed come in a 2x online. So I asked if they could order it and was told that I would have to pay for the 2x shirt if they ordered it. I just wanted to do exchange not return because I had coupons. So I proceeded to ask if they could order it on their truck and was told no. I also tried calling corporate and was told they only deal with online orders not in store purchases. So I just ended up returning the shirt and the pants which cost me $80 all together. You would think after spending this much money when I couldve easily went to cheaper store that customer service would of been the top priority. I guess not. If my coupons couldnt be returned. I don't see why they couldnt return the 1x shirt, order the 2x and then give me points or something to make up the difference for the coupons. It just seems like more couldve of been done to rectify the situation. But I was basically told oh well no apology or trying to see what could be done. Will definitely not be shoping here anymore. I will take my business elsewhere.

Great store, with lots of good products. We so here for items we cannot find elsewhere. Store is older and may need a few renovations. Thanks for remaining available to us.

The Mall anchor store glory days are over. This JCP operates on a skeletal crew and no one can help you because they’re all trapped at a register. A saleswoman today wouldn’t let me try on a shirt unless she measured me to make sure I was taking back the right size! What! The days of warm, informed retail customer service are gone.
