- IEI EJul 20, 20261.0I am deeply disappointed by my experience shopping at the J.Crew on Ponce de Leon today. 7.20.26. From the moment I entered the store, I felt singled out and closely monitored. There were five associates on the floor, including one male associate who pretend to pose as a customer while staying near me throughout my visit. Every 15 seconds, I was asked, “Can I help you with that?” Regardless of where I moved in the store, another associate would immediately approach me with the same question. Yikes. Rather than feeling welcomed, I was for sure watched. Not sure if this store had someone (and of color) steal before- however, this is not how you treat anyone for that matter. Customer service should feel genuine, not intrusive. There is a significant difference between offering assistance and making a customer feel as though they are under surveillance. I hesitate to raise this, but I cannot ignore how the experience felt. As a person of color, I was left wondering whether I was being treated differently because of my race. Other friends of mine (who visited this store earlier today) not of color -were able to browse without receiving the same level of obvious repeated surveillance, which made the contrast difficult to ignore. No customer should leave a store feeling profiled instead of valued. I have always believed J.Crew to be a brand that welcomes everyone, but today’s experience suggested otherwise. I hope management takes this feedback seriously, reviews what occurred, and provides additional training to ensure every customer is treated with the same respect, dignity, and freedom to shop without feeling singled out. Frustrating and annoying.
