  Extremely Disappointing Customer Service at Belk I specifically went out of my way to shop at Belk because I was interested in a Clinique makeup collection and wanted professional assistance applying it. I’m not a makeup expert, and since I was purchasing it for a special occasion, I wanted to try the products on with some guidance to make sure I loved the look before committing to the purchase. While the products are available online, the in-person experience and assistance were the entire reason I chose to shop in-store. I arrived right at opening, only to find that the Clinique representative was nowhere to be found for nearly 15 minutes. Meanwhile, the Estée Lauder representative was at her counter actively helping another customer with her makeup. When the Clinique representative finally arrived, I showed her the exact products I was interested in. Her response? “Well, it’s right there, you can look at it.” I explained that I wanted help trying the makeup on, and she responded, “Well, we don’t really have anything for that,” before handing me some tissues, Q-tips, and a mirror. That was the extent of the assistance I received. Seriously, what has happened to customer service? I made a special trip to Belk specifically for the in-store beauty experience, only to be left feeling like I was an inconvenience for asking for help. I could have ordered everything online or gone to another department store, including Dillard’s, and potentially received the level of service I was actually looking for. I spent approximately $150 on makeup, and the experience was so disappointing that I genuinely considered returning the entire purchase. The products themselves were not the issue; the complete lack of customer support and the dismissive attitude were. When customers make the effort to shop in person, especially at a beauty counter, they should be able to expect some level of guidance and customer care. Simply pointing to products and handing someone a mirror is not the service experience that encourages customers to return. Belk, this experience left a very poor impression, and I sincerely hope management takes a closer look at the customer service being provided at its beauty counters. I will likely never return to this store unless it’s to return my purchase
