I feel like I couldn’t just say nothing after my experience today.
I went in on a Monday and brought two bins of clothes to sell. I’m never offended if a resale store doesn’t take my clothes. I completely understand that they only buy what they need. I did bring in several Free People pieces, though, including some brand new items, so I figured they would likely be interested in those.
The process started off fine. I shopped around, tried on a few things, and waited while they went through my bins. It ended up taking over an hour on a pretty slow day, and I eventually went out to my car and waited another 30 minutes or so.
When I came back in, they told me they wanted to buy 28 items for $60. I asked which Free People items they were taking and how much they were offering for them.
The girl replied pretty snarkily, “Do you even know how our buying system works?”
I told her I was fairly familiar with how it works, but I wanted to know what they were offering for the Free People pieces before accepting.
What really threw me off was being told I could not look through the bin myself. In every other experience I’ve had selling clothes at Plato’s, the bin is put on the counter and I’m asked if I want to take one last look before accepting the offer. I have never been told that I’m not allowed to look through my own items before agreeing to sell them.
Once I was finally able to see what they were taking, I realized they wanted five Free People items for around $30 total. Three of those pieces were brand new and retailed for over $100 each. I understand resale stores need to make a profit, but $30 for all five was honestly way too low for me, so I asked for those items back.
The girl rolled her eyes, and I was told I still couldn’t take the items out of the bin myself, so she had to go through the whole bin again to find them.
The offer itself definitely bothered me, but the bigger issue was the attitude and how uncomfortable the whole interaction became just because I wanted to see what they were buying and decide whether I was okay with the offer.
I’ve had much better experiences at the Fort Myers and North Port location, so that’s where I’ll be going from now on.

I brought in some items for consideration. When I took them there they were washed, ironed, and folded neatly into the bags.
When I returned to pick them up they had been stuffed back into the bags.
You treated my clothes like rags.
That was very disrespectful.
I’m a business owner myself and would be horrified if my staff treated my customers belongings like that.
Wont be returning to purchase anything either.

I visit the store regularly and notice that the service is deteriorating; many of the items found there are basically Goodwill-level junk but expensive. There are rude teenagers who openly mock customers without a shred of shame. They were closing the store, and while I was waiting in line to pay, I was told the registers were already closed, it’s ridiculous. It’s a secondhand market, yet they treat you like dirt.
