He brought it back right away to exchange it, but Tiffany told us it could not be returned because it had been opened. We were offered no exchange, no store credit, and no refund. I explained that the item had just been purchased and was clearly defective, and that he had spent his own money on it. Tiffany stated that she would “lose her job” if she accepted the return. If store policy truly puts employees at risk of losing their jobs for helping a customer with a defective $15 item purchased moments earlier, then that policy deserves serious review. Refusing to stand behind a defective product is poor customer service and a disappointing business practice, especially when the customer is a child who spent his own money.
