My wife and I recently visited the Ralph Lauren Tampa Premium Outlet location. As soon as we entered the store a sales associate approached us offering her assistance. My wife started looking first and took a few items to try on. After trying on the sales associate said that she could take the items my wife wanted to cashier area to hold for her. My wife also gave her the dress that she didn't want. My wife was very clear when she stated that she did not want the dress. We then went to the male section of the store and picked put a few items. When finished, we walked to the front to check out and the sales associate had already pre scanned and bagged my wifes items before we got there. Which I thought was weird, but thought that the store was trying something new. I didn't know the price of the items my wife picked out and my wife didn't know the price of mine. So when the sales associate gave us the total, we didn't question it. Then when we got home later that night, my wife took everything out of the bags and noticed that the dress my wife clearly said that she did not want was in the bag along with a shirt that my wife didn't even try on. We checked the receipt to see if we were charged, and we were indeed charged. My wife called the store the next morning and she was told to bring the items back for a refund. Mind you it's a 40 minute drive each way. We took the items back and the assistant manager offered us a 15% discount to buy anything in the store for the inconvenience. We didn't want anything else in the store. We already bought everything we wanted from that store. My wife was still upset, rightfully so as she felt that wasn't the first time the store or the associate has done this. So she emailed corporate and they had the manager of the store contact me. The manager apologized and said that she has spoken to the employee and assured that it wouldn't happen again. The manager tried to excuse the associates actions by stating that there might have been a language barrier (the associate is asian). My wife replied, maybe so, but if the associate can't tell the difference between yes I do want or No I don't want, then maybe she shouldn't be on the sales floor and added that doesn't excuse how a item that my wife didn't even try on was in the bag. My wife also shared her concerns with the manager, stating that she didn't feel that this was the first time this has happened and the manager confirmed that it has happened before with that same associate and she is the only one who pre scans and bags items before customers get to the register. But she still works there , and this has happened more that once. This is a form of theft, being that the associates work on commission, and she most likely thinks that it would be too inconvenient for customers to bring items back. So my wife emailed corporate again, this time she was contacted by the district manager and he was aware of what happened and aware that it wasn't the first time. And said the best thing he could do is offer her a 25% discount off a future purchase. We don't want a discount as we won't be returning to that store.
