  I had a very disappointing experience at the Sunglass Hut in Edison Mall. My friend and I are both 12 years old, and the manager, Mary Lou, accused us of stealing a pair of sunglasses. She then called an officer over, which made the situation even more uncomfortable and embarrassing for us. What was especially disappointing was how my friend’s mom was treated during the situation. We felt that Mary Lou was disrespectful toward her instead of handling the situation calmly and respectfully. I understand that a store has to protect its merchandise, but I believe there are respectful and professional ways to handle concerns, especially when dealing with young customers and their parents. Based on this experience, I would not recommend this location and also I had accidentally placed the glasses in the wrong spot and she said she looked at the video and said that I put the glasses in my shirt.

  Mary Lou falsely alleged that my son‘s friend stole a pair of sunglasses explaining that there is a video of him putting The glasses up his shirt. When I asked to see this video after charges being pressed was threatened, they would not show the video instead they ask my son‘s friend what happened and when my son‘s friend pointed out the glasses and where they were sitting the other Rep in front of the police officer stated oh OK. They were just misplaced. How dare she accuse a child of stealing when she absolutely and obviously had absolutely no proof of the same. I am appalled and absolutely livid that my son’s friend and my son experienced this today. Meanwhile, the other Rep of the store was with my son and his friend pretty much the whole time they were in the store while Mary Lou was assisting my daughter and myself. Needless to say, I returned my two purchases

  I had a very disappointing experience involving an employee named Mary Lou. My friend was accused of stealing, and Mary Lou threatened to press charges while a police officer was present. While I understand that employees have a responsibility to address suspected theft, the way Mary Lou handled the situation came across as unnecessarily confrontational and unprofessional. The biggest issue was not that a concern was raised, but the manner in which Mary Lou handled it. The situation was made uncomfortable and escalated more than it needed to. I believe concerns involving customers should be handled calmly, respectfully, and professionally. Based on this experience, I was very disappointed with Mary Lou’s conduct and believe management should review how this situation was handled.

  I’m writing to express my concern about an incident involving my younger brother and one of his friends. One of them accidentally put a pair of sunglasses back in the wrong spot, and instead of simply correcting the mistake, he was accused of stealing. MARY LOU even threatened to press charges against a child, with a police officer being present and the situation being a clear misunderstanding. I find this completely inappropriate and upsetting. The situation could have been handled calmly and respectfully without making such serious accusations or threats toward a child. I hope this is addressed appropriately and that children are treated with more understanding and respect in the future.
