- LLLoreaJul 16, 20261.0The guys at the shop are nice, but Smart Start is the absolutely WORST company you could ever possibly deal with. Whole thing is a major scam. They gave me a broken device with nothing but issues since day 1 and they constantly charge you for the issues with it. Only one month with the device so far and have been charged over $500 in fees due to the device being defective and getting a runaround from the company after calling over 10+ times (waiting on hold 1-2 hours each time) for a replacement. I was charged $180 for a “violation” that happened WHILE THEY WERE INSTALLING THE DEVICE, I DIDNT EVEN HAVE THE CAR YET!! Another $130 because the device kept glitching and shutting off over and over while trying to test which led to a lockout. I was told they will probably add time to my sentence because of this. They don’t care at all. If you’re going to force people to use these things, the least they can do is make sure they work properly!! HORRIBLE

How does an Interlock Device work?
When you blow into your Ignition Interlock Device, you're providing a breath test sample in order to start the vehicle. The device then measures your Breath Alcohol Concentration (BrAC), and will either say that you passed, need to retest, or failed. You will be asked to take rolling retests throughout your drive.
