- JJJonathanMay 8, 20261.01 star is honestly generous for the experience my family had at JCPenney Portraits in Manchester, CT. I purchased a Groupon early in the morning for a photo session package, booked a 1:00 PM appointment online before 9 AM, and drove 40 minutes with my family for my daughter’s first birthday photos. My 12-month-old daughter was dressed up and excited for what was supposed to be a special memory for our family. When we arrived, the staff suddenly claimed that Groupons cannot be used until 24 hours after purchase. This “policy” appears NOWHERE in the Groupon terms, nowhere during booking, nowhere in the fine print, and nowhere in the redemption instructions. The Groupon app literally said the voucher was “Ready to Redeem.” Even worse, the employee and manager could not show me this policy in writing anywhere, yet still refused to honor the appointment. While sitting in the parking lot afterward, I contacted Groupon support directly. Groupon confirmed IN WRITING that there is no 24-hour waiting requirement and acknowledged that the store was enforcing a restriction that is not disclosed to customers. So either the Manchester location is making up policies as they go, or management is enforcing hidden rules customers are never informed about. Either way, it is terrible customer service and an absurd way to run a business. We wasted time, gas, and part of my daughter’s birthday over incompetence and misinformation from this location. Completely unacceptable experience.
