Your Ignition Interlock installation appointment will usually only take up to an hour or two, depending on the make and model of your vehicle. We also understand the significance of working with your car – rest assured that our service technicians will take utmost care while installing the Interlock device.

After having your Ignition Interlock Device installed, you’ll need to have your device serviced regularly at a Smart Start service center. These visits can take anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour. Our trained service technicians will help you to answer any questions you may have concerning your device.

Removing your Ignition Interlock Device is simple! Before you submit a removal request, please check with your state authority that you are authorized to remove your device. It’s important that you only have your device removed at a Smart Start service center.

    If I could give zero stars, I would. Smart Start ignition interlock is hands down one of the most frustrating, predatory companies I have ever dealt with. The entire experience feels less like a service and more like a financial trap designed to squeeze every possible dollar out of people who are already in a difficult situation. Let’s start with the basics: They charge $65 every two weeks just to use their device. Not monthly—biweekly. That alone adds up quickly and feels excessive for what you’re actually getting. But here’s where it crosses the line from expensive to outright unethical. After being OFFICIALLY approved by the court to have the device removed from my vehicle—meaning I have met every legal requirement—they still required me to submit an additional application through THEM just to remove it. As if that wasn’t insulting enough, they then charged me another $80 for the privilege of taking out a device I am legally cleared to remove. Let that sink in: You follow the law. You get court approval. And they STILL put up another paywall. That’s not a service—that’s exploitation. There is zero transparency, zero accountability, and absolutely no regard for the financial burden placed on customers. It feels like the system is intentionally designed to keep you paying for as long as possible, regardless of your legal status. Companies like this shouldn’t be allowed to operate this way. When you’re dealing with court-mandated services, there should be strict oversight—not hidden fees, redundant approvals, and constant charges. Avoid this company at all costs if you have any choice whatsoever. And if you don’t have a choice—be prepared. Because once you’re in their system, they will charge you every step of the way.

    Have had the worst experience with this device and company in my opinion. They are not accountable for all false missed test lock outs, device is way to quiet you don’t hear it, cost you lots of money 💰and they say you can send them a dispute that you always loose. Try Intoxolock it is way better device I’m now trying to get un acceptable company to remove this device out of my bit is in. The dispute department says just keep it in. BECAUSE ITS YOUR MONEY NOT THEIRS
