- SMStephen MarasJul 16, 20261.0After 50 years in the antique business I have been lucky enough to not have had a bad experience with an auction company. So I have never made any comments except laudatory ones in my hundreds ( many hundreds) of business experiences with auctions houses. So when I had what I thought would be a good regional fit with New England Auctions ( based on their published solicitations for appropriate items ) I sent them 2 items. I called the auction house to discuss the things I sent but left messages 2 or 3 times and never got a return call. When I finally got thru to “Mark” I requested a reserve on a painting that I sent them ( that the consignment personage approved) but he argued against it I insisted in our verbal discussion and left that direction. The painting sold much less than my modest requested reserve. The other item was a Yei rug that was slated to sell in their highlighted “Native American “ auction but didn’t go in and they said they would put it in an August auction. In short, no communication ( which they did apologized for) and overall treating me poorly with their cavalier attitude does not translate to have had an appropriate even handed business relationship.
