10/10 experience throughout the entire process. We drove from Fort Morgan to get my engagement and wedding band resized. The owner, Nick made sure it was done the same day so we didn’t have to drive back and forth. He was honest, accommodating, and gave us a great deal. We spoke to 3 other places but this one was by far the best. They answered immediately, got us on the schedule immediately and gave us the best price. It felt like they were family while we were there. And they do the work themselves rather than sending it off. Highly recommend!!

These guys took on a project that no other jewelers were willing to take on. I wanted a pair of earrings that had some missing pearls replaced. They told me they’d get it done in 5-10 days, actually got in done in 2, and they look good as new. They dug deep to find the right size pearls and made them look like they were always there. And for only $100. They did a great job and I would highly recommend them for any repair work!

Abysmal experience trying to contact and work with them. Tried to contact them via the contact us/email prompt on the website. Didn't respond. Week or so later, called number on website, rang through with no voicemail. Called a second time in quick succession and was hung up on less than 5 rings into the call. Later, drove to the store during hours Google listed as open. Sign on the door saying they're closed due to computer issues, fine, fair enough. Call the number on the sign, finally get to talk to someone. Ask when they'll be open/can make an appointment. Told they'll be open Tuesday. Ask if they'll be open next Saturday, 1pm. Get an affirmative. Saturday rolls around, realize it's the weekend of the 4th. Call both numbers to check if they're actually open. No one picks up, fine, understandable. Wait until next weekend Saturday, check Google hours to make sure they're open. Google no longer lists Saturday hours. Try sending text, maybe text is better. Wait a day or two, no response. Fine. Call back one more time. Guy that picks up is terse, insinuates I don't have a clue how much the custom piece will cost. Only helpful information provided was that they don't work with ideas, you have to come in with an Exact image of what you want so they can CAD it.
Call a different custom jeweler. Picks up first time. 0 snark about my project or my ability to do research and figure out rough damn price ranges. Excited about my project. Asks about my timeline. Tells me what to do next to get the ball rolling and sets expectations on their timeline. Night and day experience.
Rocky Mountain Custom Jewelry, 0.5 stars out of 10. Abysmal. Do Not recommend.
Frequently Asked Questions About Rocky Mountain Custom Jewelry
What types of custom jewelry services do you offer?
Our custom jewelry services encompass a wide range of options. We specialize in designing and creating new pieces from scratch, including engagement rings, wedding bands, pendants, bracelets, and men's accessories. Additionally, we offer restoration services for vintage or estate jewelry, which can involve remounting stones or completely redesigning the piece according to your preferences.
How do I begin a custom jewelry project?
To start your custom jewelry project, we invite you to schedule a complimentary consultation. This can be done either in our studio or virtually, whichever is more convenient for you. During this meeting, we'll discuss your vision, budget constraints, and desired timeline. We'll then sketch initial concepts and review material options. Once you've approved the design and cost estimate, our skilled goldsmiths will begin crafting your unique piece.
What is the typical timeline for a custom piece?
The creation of a custom jewelry piece typically takes between 4 to 6 weeks from the moment the design is approved to its completion. However, more intricate designs, extensive hand-engraving work, or the need for special-order gemstones may extend this timeline to 8-10 weeks. We'll provide you with a specific delivery date once your design is finalized.
How is pricing determined for custom jewelry?
The price of custom jewelry is determined by several factors. These include the cost of materials (such as the weight of metal used and the selection of gemstones), the complexity of the design (including elements like hand-engraving or filigree work), and the number of labor hours required. We provide a detailed, itemized estimate before commencing any work, ensuring you have a clear understanding of how materials and craftsmanship contribute to your investment.
Can I use my own stones or precious metals?
We welcome the use of your own materials in custom jewelry projects. You're free to provide your existing diamonds, gemstones, or even scrap gold or silver. We'll carefully test and certify each piece you bring in, then apply its full market value towards the cost of your new design.
What metals and gemstones do you work with?
Our artisans work with a variety of precious metals including 10k, 14k, and 18k yellow, white, and rose gold, as well as platinum and sterling silver. For gemstones, we offer both mined and lab-grown options including diamonds, sapphires, emeralds, rubies, and an extensive selection of colored stones.
Do you purchase unwanted gold or jewelry?
Yes, we do purchase unwanted jewelry, coins, gold, and silver. We're committed to offering the highest possible prices for these items. Each piece is carefully tested for purity and weighed, then evaluated against current market spot prices to ensure you receive the most competitive offer.
How do you determine the value of my gold?
To determine the value of your gold, we first assess its purity using either acid or electronic testing methods. We then weigh the items in pennyweights or grams. The payout is calculated as a percentage of the current spot price per troy ounce, minus any agreed-upon refining fees. This process ensures transparent and fair offers based on real-time market rates.
What karat gold do you accept for purchase or trade-in?
We accept gold in all common jewelry purities, including 8k, 10k, 12k, 14k, 18k, 22k, and 24k. Each karat level is valued according to its percentage of pure gold content. Consequently, higher-karat items will receive a higher per-gram payout due to their greater gold content.
How should I care for my custom jewelry?
To maintain the beauty of your custom jewelry, we recommend regular cleaning with mild soap and warm water, followed by gentle brushing with a soft toothbrush. It's important to store your pieces separately to prevent scratching. We also advise bringing your jewelry in for an annual professional inspection and cleaning. This helps ensure the security of prongs and maintains the integrity of the metal.
