The girlie pops working at UTC sunglass hut on Sunday October 11th were amazing. I can't remember their names but they were so encouraging in helping me pick my first pair of designer sunnies. I really valued hearing their opinions and appreciated the insight they gave on what looked good on me. I ended up with super cute Prada sunnies and I'm SO EXCITED about them!!

WATCH OUT — THIS ONE’S A DOOZY.
I mistakenly bought a pair of low-bridge Prada sunglasses online and came into this location to try on the regular-fit pair. I was helped by the manager, Sol, who was initially friendly and helpful.
I preferred the regular pair and told her I planned to exchange them online so I could take advantage of a Rakuten cash-back offer. Sol specifically convinced me to exchange them in-store instead so I could avoid shipping and leave with the correct pair that day.
She spent quite a while at the register processing what she repeatedly described to me as an “exchange.” I trusted that was exactly what she was doing and left happy with the new pair.
I NEVER wore these sunglasses because I planned to have prescription lenses put into them. After learning an outside optometrist could not offer protection against potential damage during lens replacement, I decided I would rather purchase the sunglasses and prescription lenses together through LensCrafters.
So I returned to Sunglass Hut to return my completely unworn Prada sunglasses.
Sol was working again and appeared to remember me. The moment I handed her the sunglasses, she immediately said she could not accept the return because they were “damaged.” She repeatedly pointed to an alleged chip in the lens that neither my husband nor I could even see.
I was baffled. The sunglasses had never been worn, and she seemed unusually quick and adamant about denying the return over damage that was essentially invisible to us.
Something felt off, so we went to another Sunglass Hut.
The employee there inspected the EXACT SAME sunglasses and had no issue with their condition. However, while processing the return, he asked how I had originally paid. I told him I purchased them online with my credit card.
That is when I discovered what Sol had actually done during my supposed “exchange.”
Instead of simply exchanging my online purchase, she had returned the original pair, converted the value into a Sunglass Hut gift card, and then used that gift card to purchase the replacement pair — all while describing the transaction to me as an “exchange.”
I was NEVER told my credit-card purchase was being converted into gift-card funds. I was never asked whether I agreed to that, nor was I warned that doing so would affect my ability to receive a future refund back to my credit card.
Had she explained that, I absolutely would not have agreed.
Because Sol processed it this way, the replacement sunglasses now appeared as a gift-card purchase. The second store therefore could not simply refund my credit card and needed a manager to resolve the situation. No manager was available, so we went BACK to UTC.
Another manager there told us that because Sol had already denied the return, she could not override her decision — even if she personally would have accepted the sunglasses. She also confirmed that even if the return were accepted, the refund could NOT go back to my credit card because Sol had converted the original purchase into gift-card funds.
So, to summarize: Sol convinced me not to handle the exchange online, processed the transaction in a completely different way than she represented it to me, converted my credit-card purchase into store credit without clearly disclosing the consequences, and then later refused to accept my UNWORN sunglasses because of alleged damage that another Sunglass Hut employee had no issue with.
Her handling of the original transaction is the entire reason this became such a mess.
What should have been a simple exchange became multiple trips to different stores and left me unable to receive my money back to my original form of payment.
None of this would have happened had Sol simply been transparent about what she was doing at the register.
I strongly recommend checking your receipt and asking EXACTLY how any return or exchange is being processed at this location. Do not assume that what is being described to you as an “exchange” is actually being processed that way.
