An employee asked if we needed help and my husband told her, “Yes, I’d like to try on your suits.” Her immediate response was, “For you? Nothing’s going to fit you. You’re too small.” My husband explained that he regularly wears a 3XL. Instead of helping him find something to try, she responded, “Yeah, but it’s not going to look good on you.” He again told her that he would still like to try something on because he wears a 3X regularly. She then told him he could try a 2X, but repeated that “it’s not going to look good on you.” At that point, my husband turned around and left. The entire interaction was extremely rude, dismissive, and unnecessary. We came into the store ready to purchase a suit, and instead of receiving assistance, my husband was repeatedly told that nothing would fit him or look good on him before he was even given the opportunity to try anything on. Regardless of whether an employee believes a particular size or style will work, there is a respectful and professional way to assist a customer. Making someone feel unwelcome or uncomfortable about their body or size is not it. We left without purchasing anything and will gladly take our business somewhere else.
