Opened in 2017, Sportsman’s Warehouse in Yuma, AZ is near the Lower Colorado River and Yuma Palms. National gunsmithing services are now available! If you like hunting, we’re here to get you all set up with everything you need. Popular pursuits include dove, deer, sheep, javelina, quail, and coyote. If fishing is more your speed, we have all of your tackle to catch the bass or catfish that you’re after. We also carry plenty of supplies for hiking, camping, kayaking, canoeing, and shooting sports. Our shop services are available to spool reels, mount and boresight rifle scopes, cut arrows, tune bows in our 10-yard archery lane, and anything covered by your Firearm Service Plan. No matter the weather or time of year, we’ve got the seasonal accessories to fit your outdoor adventure. While you’re in the area, be sure to check out local events like the Yuma County Fair, Silver Spur Rodeo, and Midnight at the Oasis Car Show.
I had one of the worst retail experiences I’ve had in a long time at Sportsman’s Warehouse.
The store was advertising a promotion where purchasing qualifying Ugly Stik products and spending over $100 would earn a $20 gift card. I specifically made my purchasing decisions based on that advertised promotion and ultimately spent nearly $600 in the store.
When the gift card was not offered, I asked for assistance. Not a single employee I spoke with understood how the promotion worked, what qualified, or how to resolve the issue. After multiple conversations, the only solution management could offer was for me to return everything I had already purchased and buy it all again, hoping the system would work the second time.
To make matters worse, the promotional signage provided virtually no useful details, limitations, or instructions. Customers are expected to rely on the advertisement, yet employees and management apparently have no ability to honor it when their own system fails.
The issue isn’t the $20 gift card. It’s the principle. If a company advertises a promotion to get customers in the door, they should be willing and able to honor it—especially for a customer who just spent hundreds of dollars. Instead, I was left wasting my time while employees shrugged their shoulders and management offered no meaningful solution.
Retailers wonder why customers increasingly shop online. This experience is a perfect example. Poor communication, poorly trained staff(one member stating “I only work here twice a week”), and an unwillingness to stand behind advertised promotions.
I won’t be making future large purchases at Sportsman’s Warehouse, and I’d encourage others to verify every promotion before spending their money there because apparently even the employees don’t know how they work.
