Smart Start engaged in documented deceptive pricing, contract manipulation, and billing fraud from 4/2 - present. Account #006506260404142759.
Agent 1 claimed Smart Start doesn't exist in AZ. Agent 2 (XLSHV) insisted $300 flat and blocked verification. Rep Ron quoted $180 install, $0 enrollment, first month free, $52 biweekly, device protection & roadside included — then forced signature with a 24hr deadline on a contract matching none of those terms.
Agent Wil wasted 90min on 4/3 before admitting he had no billing authority.
On 4/4 mid-installation I was pressured into signing a 2nd contract while my car was disassembled. Enrollment fee secretly changed from $0 - $90. Receipt confirms $300 cash. Signed under duress twice. 3 contracts, all diff prices, all bearing filename "SSI IID E-Lease - v9 - Roadside Add removed" on every page. Contracts vanished from app after dispute began. 27 email harassment reminders to sign extra contracts. 3 DocuSign contracts. All fraud. All documented.
Billing fraud: $58.33 actual charge — never quoted, not in any contract. $5.56 Autopay Fee charged despite active enrollment. Agent James admitted text support cannot transfer depts & provided a useless dispute link only valid for non-installed customers.
Pre-installation compliance request sent 6 days after installation — possible MVD/DOT reporting failure.
Roadside assistance stripped from all 3 contracts before sending. File named after what was removed. Multiple contracts generated to bury original $0 enrollment agreement.
Demands: $300 installation credit. $90 enrollment waived. $105 first month credit. $36.68 balance credited. Biweekly rate $27.50 for 12 months. Roadside and device protection at no charge. $5.56 fee removed.
Both contracts signed under duress and fraudulent inducement.
Full documented complaint filed simultaneously with Arizona AG, CFPB, FTC, and ADOT. Complete evidence available upon request.

Was not satisfied with installation. Tech was "too busy" to show me how to use it. When I could not figure it out then they came outside to finally help. Unit is shoved under dash and is rubbing against my clutch pedal. On my way home the angle damaged the push rod and blew out my master cylinder for the clutch. Had to get my truck towed. And now today my screen on the hand held device is not displaying. Just a blank white screen. Will be filling an official complaint today after I get off work. Need to take pictures of clutch pedal shaving the unit because of installation so they dont try and blame me for damage and charge me for it later. Unit was installed yesterday 3/24/26

It took a little longer than expected, but the people were great. I did not receive any extra mouthpieces and my brake light won't turn off even though my brake is not engaged.

Not even 24 hours in and I have been double charged the enrollment fee, charged a extra 10 on top of my monthly fee at install. My monthly fee was gone up from what was quoted. Customer service is horrendous. Sat on hold for 57 min and talked to the people a total of 2 minutes for them to fix nothing. The install shop did not have mouth pieces so I'm forced to use a device that is not clean and others have been blowing into. Creating health concerns. If I could rate less then 1 star I would.

Do I need an Interlock Device on all of my vehicles?
Some states will require that you have an Ignition Interlock Device installed on all cars registered to you, but most states will just require that whichever vehicle you drive have an IID installed. Check with your state authority to see if you will need an IID installed on all of your cars.

How does an Interlock Device work?
When you blow into your Ignition Interlock Device, you're providing a breath test sample in order to start the vehicle. The device then measures your Breath Alcohol Concentration (BrAC), and will either say that you passed, need to retest, or failed. You will be asked to take rolling retests throughout your drive.
What can breathalyzers detect?
Breathalyzers only measure your Breath Alcohol Concentration (BrAC).
Is an Ignition Interlock the same as a breathalyzer?
Ignition Interlock and handheld breathalyzers both test your Breath Alcohol Concentration (BrAC), but an Ignition Interlock Device is only installed in vehicles and prevents the car from starting if there is alcohol detected. A handheld breathalyzer only detects alcohol and may tell you the concentration.
Can I unplug my Ignition Interlock?
Check with your state authority to see if you are allowed to unplug your Ignition Interlock before doing so.
Can someone else drive my car?
Yes, but whoever is driving the vehicle MUST take a breath test and pass before driving. Any failed test will still be your responsibility.
