Scheels is absolutely wonderful. There are always plenty of staff available and willing to help. They are always friendly while going the extra mile. Their selections are amazing and prices extremely competitive. Then add in my favorite part, a Christian organization. I drive further every time to go to Scheels over Big 5 or Dicks because I know I will experience quality and excellence. I’m so glad to have them in Arizona.

The store was awesome but the HUGE set back was that the firearms section was ran by childish/ immature salesman who were allowing people who were not old enough to handle firearms handle and point in the direction of others and watched one use a benelli shotgun and point towards two men, act like he was emptying the shotgun on them(shooting at them not performing proper firearm handling). All in all the store was awesome but any one who practices safe firearm handling and want to keep your families safe avoid the gun section.

Shout out to Sofia in the Women’s Dressing room staff!! Sofia was extremely helpful today, Aug 11th. Absolutely the best dressing room attendant!! Sofia is kind and genuinely wants to help. Usually I don’t have attendants go get different sizes for me, because they don’t really seem very eager to do so. However today If I mentioned anything of a size or color, Sofia was on it bringing back what I might need. If they didn’t have my size she would bring something similar, which worked out. Also when I mentioned the top I liked and wondered if it came in another color, again she was on it, brought back each color to show me. I really appreciate your help today Sofia!!

★☆☆☆☆ — UPDATED I discovered Scheels about eight months ago and have spent thousands of dollars there, including on a Daniel Defense, Sig Sauer Cross, my fiancée’s Staccato, and other firearms and outdoor gear. Until this, my experiences had been excellent. My original review was about how I was treated while making legitimate returns. Connor repeatedly brought supervisors into the conversation while pointing out reasons to question my returns—a Garmin that had been used, a tiny speck of dirt on an otherwise immaculate Ridge wallet, etc. The Garmin had a small crack in the screen when we opened the box that worsened after I used it as intended, and it was still within the 90-day return period. The worst part was when I mentioned that other employees had previously allowed a refund to be issued differently. Connor repeatedly asked me which employees had done it. That effectively put me in the position of being a manager instead of a customer. It is not my responsibility to identify employees who gave me good customer service so they can potentially be questioned or disciplined. I'm not throwing good employees under the bus because they took care of me. I left feeling like I'd been interrogated in a courtroom rather than helped in a store. Then Scheels responded to my review saying I “should never feel interrogated” and that they wanted to “make this right.” So I gave them another opportunity. I called ahead and spoke with Myra. She initially became defensive about my concerns but eventually assured me there would be no issue when I returned. She specifically told me she would go down to customer service and explain the situation so everyone knew what was going on. She also offered me a $25 gift card after I pointed out that simply completing the return that should have been handled properly originally wasn't really making the situation right. When we returned, I had my fiancée handle it because I genuinely didn't want another interrogation. She soon texted me because she was being questioned anyway, so I went to customer service myself. I explained the issue to them. My fiancée described the same issue using slightly different words, and instead of recognizing that two people can describe the same problem differently, they began comparing what she said against what I had literally just told them, as though one of us was contradicting the other. It felt like they were trying to pit my words against my fiancée's. This was exactly the type of interrogation Scheels had just apologized for. Myra was then contacted by phone and again became defensive, even telling customer service that I had never told her there was an issue with the Garmin. I absolutely had. So Scheels publicly acknowledged the problem, I called ahead specifically to prevent it from happening again, I was personally assured customer service would be briefed—and my fiancée and I ended up right back in the same situation. At this point, the $25 gift card is beside the point. I gave Scheels the opportunity they asked for to make this right, and instead the follow-up recreated the exact experience I complained about. I'm done going to the Court of Scheels to defend legitimate returns. Unfortunately, I'll be taking my business somewhere that appreciates it.

It’s extremely disappointing that a family can’t enjoy this store without being followed by employees. We came in to buy my husband new shoes and after getting fitted and scanned by the shoe department we decided to explore the store more. We looked through every section just enjoying our afternoon. When we reached the top floor my husband wanted to look at the guns of course he’s a disabled veteran and former police officer. Naturally we take our time there and me and my daughter went to look at the large mountain with the taxidermy animals and employee walked by and said hello we responded and keep on. Then the same man again seemed to be lingering near us as we took a lap around and checked out all the animals. Before we left we wanted a picture of our daughter with the bear and as we went towards it he happened to walk over there and start leaning on the rails “talking on the phone” which seemed odd for someone at work. And he said “what time can you be here” or something along the lines of that which we thought was super odd like we felt as if we were doing something wrong. So we snapped the picture quickly and went downstairs to check out. The cashiers were nice and so were the greeters at the front. The situation upstairs just truly made us feel so out of place and we’ve spent almost $500 there in the past week on shoes for our family. We won’t be returning the shoes but we also won’t be returning to the location again.
