Plato's Closet buys and sells gently used clothing, shoes, sneakers, accessories and athletic wear for teens and young adults in Madison. Sell styles you no longer wear for cash on the spot, or shop thrifted, secondhand, and resale fashion, including trendy, brand-name styles for less. With 500+ independently owned and operated locations across the U.S. and Canada, fresh inventory arriving daily, Plato's Closet makes thrifting easy, affordable, and more sustainable.
Honestly, I have no idea what Plato’s Closet is actually looking for.
I brought in THREE boxes of clothing and shoes, high-end jeans that retail for around $130, shoes around $150, boutique brands, name brands, and plenty of pieces in excellent condition.
They took exactly ZERO items.
Not one.
Out of three entire boxes.
I completely understand that resale stores buy based on current inventory and what they believe they can sell. But when someone brings in three boxes of quality clothing, including expensive boutique and name-brand pieces, and your buying team decides there isn’t a single sellable item among them, I have some serious questions about how those decisions are being made.
Especially when I walked around the store afterward and saw what actually IS hanging on the racks. That was the part that really got me.
Apparently my mistake was assuming quality, condition, and original value would factor heavily into the decision.
If you have genuinely nice clothing to sell, save yourself the trouble. Sell it online, take it to a consignment shop that specializes in higher-end clothing, donate it, give it to a friend, honestly, do just about anything besides hauling three boxes in here just to haul all three boxes right back out.
Lesson learned.

Very nice staff. They only accept adult sizes for resell, but if you have name brand young adult size clothes in like new condition, then they are a good option to get some money for them.

I had a really good experience with this Platos Closet. Compared to the Huntsville location, they have a much better atmosphere! I would say it is worth the time to come out here, between an extremely friendly staff to a desirable clothing section to choose from. It has it all.

Incredibly rude staff, and they will give you next to nothing for your clothing, even if they are name brand and in great condition. You're better off selling online.

I went here to get rid of some clothing items, the majority never worn and with the tags still on them. I didn't go to sell, but to donate them. I'm not sure if I were judged by my ethnicity or my work clothes, but I was politely told that there were drop-off locations, to other businesses, throughout the parking lot. She never even looked at the items. 2-star for politeness.
