- DKDouglas KelleyJan 16, 20251.0Avoid Smart Start - Major Issues with Push-Start Vehicles I would not recommend Smart Start for an interlock device, especially if you have a newer vehicle with a push-start system. I had a terrible experience with this device, which ended up damaging my truck’s electrical system. My truck, a newer Ram, started experiencing severe issues with the battery and alternator shortly after the device was installed. The device caused the battery to drain, and on multiple occasions, it prevented my truck from turning off completely. It would get stuck in a reboot cycle, taking a long time to reset and forcing me to disconnect it just to start my vehicle. This led to major issues with the alternator, which I eventually had to replace. Customer service is another huge problem. The phone support is routed through an automated system, with long wait times and little actual help. If you’re stranded and the device isn’t working (which happened often in my case), you’re essentially left with no support. Keep track of all records if you experience problems. Smart Start will do everything in their power to avoid admitting fault and will refuse credits, even if their device is the cause of the issues. In my opinion, Smart Start’s device is unreliable. I highly suggest looking into other interlock systems for your vehicle. Their deceptive reviews do not reflect the reality of the issues I experienced.

What do I need to bring to my installation?
Bring a photo ID and proof of residence in the form of a document verifying your address.
