    I am writing to formally report the extremely poor customer service I experienced at your Silverlake Village location on 12/23 at approximately 2:00 PM. I was attempting to purchase a pair of heels using a $25 DSW e-gift card. The e-gift card clearly states that it can be used in store by providing the gift card number and PIN. I had a screenshot of the original gift card email, which contained both the number and the PIN. I work in healthcare I do not peddle discounted shoes for a living so it’s not possible to log in my work email on my mobile phone . I was informed by the store manager, Katie, that she needed a QR code to process the E-gift card. I had a coworker log in to my email and the gift card doesn’t come with a scannable code. It only has instructions to provide to the number and pin . Katie states that she would not process my purchase. I explained I am not permitted to access my personal email on my phone, which is why I had a screenshot available. Despite this explanation, Katie refused to assist me or offer a reasonable solution. I then asked another employee, Kenzie, whether I could place the order online and select in-store pickup in order to use my e-gift card that way. Both Katie and Kenzie told me this was not possible and stated it would “take hours” for the order to process, which left me without any viable option to complete my purchase at that time. As a result, I had to leave the store, go to my workplace, print the e-gift card, and return to the store in order to make the exact same purchase — using the same gift card — which was then suddenly accepted. This entire situation was unnecessary, frustrating, and embarrassing. It is 2025, and refusing a legitimate e-gift card simply because it is presented via screenshot — despite having the correct number and PIN — is unreasonable. Additionally, Kenzie’s attitude was noticeably rude, and Katie, as a store manager, demonstrated a lack of problem-solving skills, flexibility, and basic customer service. I was fully prepared to make a purchase, had valid payment, and wanted to give DSW my business. Instead, I was treated dismissively and forced to jump through hoops that should not be required of a paying customer. I am requesting that this incident be reviewed, that additional training be provided to the staff involved, and that clarification be given regarding DSW’s policy on e-gift cards so customers are not treated this way in the future. Technology cannot be that overwhelming to a store that had virtually no foot traffic during the busiest shopping season. Maybe this is why .
