  There's generally few checkouts open, long lines, and the process goes very slowly. Several times I've decided not to purchase the items I went in to buy.

  I've given this location multiple chances but the experience here is consistently disappointing. My biggest frustration is with pickup orders there is always an issue, whether it's a long wait, a missing item, or staff who seem completely unaware an order was placed at all. Beyond that the store is regularly disorganized and difficult to navigate. It's clear there's a staffing shortage but what staff are present don't seem particularly motivated to help customers. I genuinely enjoy shopping at Academy Sports at other locations which is why this one is so frustrating. The bar for customer service here is on the floor. I'd encourage management to invest in better training and hire people who take some pride in the job customers notice and they remember.

  yall turned an online order pickup that should have taken a few minutes into a bit of a process instead of having the order i was told was ready hours before i showed up available i was told to go wait in the sunglasses aisle while yall had to have it brought from a seperate section of the store then after the id confirmation i gonto leave and by the time i get to the door i realize you shorted me a box of ammo then i was told to leave my stuff at customer service go to sporting and pick up the ammo that was missing from the order now the guy from sporting was great through all this but i ordered this way to save myself time and hastle and this has been a total boondoggle Honestly i dont think i will be doing buisiness with this location again

  I had an extremely frustrating experience at Academy Sports in Midland, TX. Yesterday I ordered a trampoline online and completed payment. The website clearly stated it would be ready for pickup within an hour. Based on that information, I drove to the store expecting a smooth pickup process. After arriving, I stood in line for approximately 30 minutes before finally getting assistance. When I reached the counter, I was told they did not actually have the trampoline in stock and that my order was being canceled. No prior notification. No phone call. No email. Nothing. To make matters worse, I was told that if I still wanted the same trampoline, I could drive to the Odessa location and purchase one there — but it would cost $100 more. So not only did they waste my time, but the “solution” was to pay more money and drive even farther. The manager came out and offered no real resolution. There was no attempt to honor the original price, no discount for the inconvenience, no meaningful apology — just a casual “sorry” and essentially “that’s just how it is.” If your inventory system can’t accurately reflect what’s in stock, don’t promise one-hour pickup. Customers plan their time around that commitment. Completely unacceptable customer service and a total waste of time. I will seriously reconsider shopping here again.
