- RHRheaven HicksDec 2, 20255.0While I was not excited to have this device installed, Connor and Joseph made the experience somewhat enjoyable. Joseph was very informative on the do’s and don’ts of the device while Connor performed what I hoped to be a seamless install. Hopefully I can get this thing off as fast as I got it on but I can honestly say this will be my Smart Start home for the next year. Customer service was amazing and its location isn’t too far from my home.

Three times it occurred at least two times the vehicle was in the shop for over a month. The Company‘ Sappeal process for the assessments is a joke. Based off my experience, my opinion that this company is just money, hungry money, greedy.

On the other hand the time parameters and inflexibility of the rules seems to have been designed by idiots. I would be happy to help with a redesign at no charge. Bring a photo ID and proof of residence in the form of a document verifying your address. How often does my Ignition Interlock Device need to be serviced?
You will be asked to bring your Ignition Interlock Device in for regularly scheduled services. Call our knowledgeable Customer Care Center to find out how often your IID will need to be serviced at (800) 831-3299.
What do I need for removal?
Requirements will differ by state, but generally your state authority must grant removal authorization before you can have your IID removed. You will then need to fill out the Device Removal Request form on our website and upload any official documentation that may be required to authorize the removal.
Do I need an Interlock Device on all of my vehicles?
Some states will require that you have an Ignition Interlock Device installed on all cars registered to you, but most states will just require that whichever vehicle you drive have an IID installed. Check with your state authority to see if you will need an IID installed on all of your cars.
Does the Interlock Device mess up or hurt my vehicle?

How does an Interlock Device work?
When you blow into your Ignition Interlock Device, you're providing a breath test sample in order to start the vehicle. The device then measures your Breath Alcohol Concentration (BrAC), and will either say that you passed, need to retest, or failed. You will be asked to take rolling retests throughout your drive.
What can breathalyzers detect?
Breathalyzers only measure your Breath Alcohol Concentration (BrAC).
Is an Ignition Interlock the same as a breathalyzer?
Ignition Interlock and handheld breathalyzers both test your Breath Alcohol Concentration (BrAC), but an Ignition Interlock Device is only installed in vehicles and prevents the car from starting if there is alcohol detected. A handheld breathalyzer only detects alcohol and may tell you the concentration.
Can I unplug my Ignition Interlock?
Check with your state authority to see if you are allowed to unplug your Ignition Interlock before doing so.
Can someone else drive my car?
Yes, but whoever is driving the vehicle MUST take a breath test and pass before driving. Any failed test will still be your responsibility.
