- CGClara GamesDec 2, 20251.0My husband got in a car wreck with my vehicle. I am pregnant, out of work and unable to drive the car since it’s at the shop and not drivable. I did everything they asked. Left a note on the account as soon as the car wreck happened. Contact the monitoring authority who suggested I get a portable device, which I did. Got the removal approval from the judge, and now SMART START wants to tell me that I have to pay the balance for the last couple of months (over $300), the technician’s removal fee (because I can’t take the car all the way to the shop to get the device removed since it need to be worked on), plus the portable device that I’ve had for a month already… this is absurd and cruel. I don’t recommend this company at all. They’re now giving me the runaround, asking me to reach out to the monitoring authority as if they would be able to do anything. Please go with anyone else offering these services because this is very callus and more in this time and economy, and I am pregnant so this is putting additional stress on me right before my due date. Please go somewhere else!

They don't even bother to let you know anything when you arrive. No signage posted or anything, they'll just have you sitting waiting in your car to waste your time. I have never been to a location that says their equipment is always down like this one. I do not know why they even advertise the service. Whatever licensing they have should be stripped. Horrible service.

How does an Interlock Device work?
When you blow into your Ignition Interlock Device, you're providing a breath test sample in order to start the vehicle. The device then measures your Breath Alcohol Concentration (BrAC), and will either say that you passed, need to retest, or failed. You will be asked to take rolling retests throughout your drive.

Breathalyzers only measure your Breath Alcohol Concentration (BrAC).
Is an Ignition Interlock the same as a breathalyzer?
Ignition Interlock and handheld breathalyzers both test your Breath Alcohol Concentration (BrAC), but an Ignition Interlock Device is only installed in vehicles and prevents the car from starting if there is alcohol detected. A handheld breathalyzer only detects alcohol and may tell you the concentration.
