I visited the store to exchange a pair of shoes I had received as a gift. Upon being informed by the cashier that a return was not possible without a receipt, I requested to speak with a manager to clarify the store policy. When the manager arrived, she approached me with an aggressive and unprofessional tone, falsely accusing me of using profanity toward the associate. When I asked for further clarification on the return policy, she stated it was at her discretion while repeatedly hitting the counter in an unwarranted manner. She then rudely demanded that I leave the premises. The manager’s behavior was so aggressive that I felt it necessary to begin recording the interaction for my own safety. I felt singled out, devalued, and deeply embarrassed in front of other customers and staff. This incident has caused me significant ongoing anxiety when shopping in public spaces. While I received a call from the manager a week later and was contacted by the District Manager four weeks after the incident, the offer of a gift card is an insufficient resolution for the humiliation and emotional distress I experienced.
